Back in the day when Arsenal and Man U rivalry was the best football rivalry in the world. Everytime they faced each other, there were gonna be fights, red cards and through the roof intensity. I miss those good old days when football was great, players played for the badges on their chest, not for flexing for social media.

When I see Liverpool fans and Man City fans trying to be exclusive by saying their current teams are the best ever, I just laugh... I mean the level of delusion from both ends is not just cringe-ey but also comedic. Liverpool and Man City can never emulate United /Arsenal rivalry. Utd kicked the opposition off the pitch in every game, problem was, Arsenal were as tough as anybody out there, so even with cheating officials and the FA wanting Utd to win everything, Arsenal were just too good. Had the rules have been applied fairly Utd would have been down to 9 players in the first 10 minutes of this game.

If you wanna see how United had referees in the bag back then, look no further than this video. In the same play Nistelrooy should’ve gotten a 2nd yellow for the foul on Lauren, it was Vieira who got booked for a nothing foul on Beckham instead. Out of United’s 20 titles, 2 of them at least is due to referees helping them out. Bunch of cheats.

To be honest the robbery of our long unbeaten run was the most blatant example of this. Fergie had refs, pundits, British managers in other premier league teams all under his influence. The man was an incredible competitor and surely he didn't need all that additional help to be regarded as a great. What it did in the eyes of a lot of Arsenal supporters of that time was to somewhat taint his illustrious achievement in the league. Arsenal and Man U did not compete on a level playing field from when Wenger joined until the invincibles team was broken up to make way for the Emirates stadium. I applaud Fergie's achievements after the invincibles era when Chelsea joined the picture and also Man City towards the end of his time as manager things were bit fairer although Rafa would beg to differ when he made his 'fact' speech..

It was a typical match between these lot, United accepting before the match that they don't have near enough the class and technical ability that Arsenal do so they'll look to kick them off the turf with the refs always somehow turning a lenient shoulder to it. Arsenal retaliate and get punished till in the end little moments of magic wins it for either team. All these years I'm amazed the English press never tagged Ferguson as a dirty manager.

So true! He was nowhere near the level that the true great midfielders were at but according to United fans he's the greatest midfielder of all time. Couldn't tackle to save his life, couldn't dribble, would often lose the ball in extremely dangerous positions on the field, was a dirty snide little prick & the majority of his passes were those big lofted long balls albeit effective but not beautiful quick, sharp, defense splitting, grass cutting passes that the true greats can pull off. Some people claim he's underrated but I actually think it's the complete opposite, but that's just my opinion.

Dude the referee let so many things go in this game for both sides. But Arsenal were the better side during this period and Man United had to try disrupt them. But if you think of today's teams all hugs and pals and no passion like this game.

The standard of refereeing in those days was poor. Too scared to stand up to fergie. The shoe is on the other foot now. Ole goes to ref before kick off and asks for at least one penalty per half.
