Part of what makes this analysis so amazing, is it hasn't even touched on the implications set by the season 2 finale (something you, B-Mask, will learn to appreciate when you've watched Clone Wars). Din Djarin is set to become the next Mandalore, he won the dark saber through combat, a rite of passage that he wasn't aware of before he took on the responsibility. Bo Katan was *given* the saber by Sabine, an act that all other Mandalorians detest and see as weakness; and more than likely the reason why she lost it, and was left with a handful of loyalists under her command, but was forgotten by her people after the events of Rebels. The finale implies an upcoming struggle between the two characters, that despite Din forgoing tradition and even trying to express his defeat just so Bo would take it off his hands, he still has been shoved into a role that he will have to choose to accept or abandon. If Din chooses to become Mandalore and save his people, he would most definitely be taking on a challenge he has never considered: leading. And the conflict that would inevitably arise between him and Bo Katan would be a momentous hurdle to conquer for the exiled veteran trying to reclaim what she believes is a birthright. If he abandons the duty he has gained from acquiring the Dark Saber, he will be abandoning Mandalore, its people, and the traditions that have survived for millennia. Though he has been straying from the Path and the Way, to completely abandon his people would destroy Din Djarin at his core. This would leave the Mandalorians to fade away into the quiet dark, forgotten, extinct; and centuries of victories, traditions, and honor, would be lost forever.

@@sleepykhajiit1875 I agree with the reasoning, but I think the op is talking more about the choice he would have to make that would continue the dilemma of who Din really is rather than who he's expected to be. Be the king to save a creed he cared about... or give it all up to see the child again. We'd hope for the latter. He might HAVE to take the former. Great drama if it's the case.

"Bo Katan was given the saber by Sabine, an act that all other Mandalorians detest and see as weakness;" Yeah, I just don't buy this. At the end of Rebels, we see that Bo-Katan is given the Darksaber by Sabine in full view of all the clan leaders, and they still pledged support to her regardless. At that point, they didn't really care if Bo-Katan wielded the Darksaber or how she came to wield it. They cared that she took up the role of leading them in driving out the Empire and restoring Mandalore's sovereignty.

Another well written, balanced, thoughtful and earnestly positive analysis. It would have been so easy for you to point at some other Star Wars movies and say, “it’s good because it’s not that”, but instead you took the time to explain how and why The Mandalorian resonates the same way as the original trilogy, by being a melting pot of influences, and through creative use of the shorthand associated with Star Wars. A really well made (and delivered) video essay. Shot man!

The fact that they gave Boba Fett a hot asian sidekick and made him badass like some kind of fanfic and making it work is proof enough that they made something great here. Also funny how I just now saw this and you talking about salvaging something that didn't work and making it good/putting new context to it after I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. Also great to learn more about the people behind it and what inspired Star Wars and this series.

The genuine analysis of Boba Fett caught me off guard because that's a part of the conversation I feel like is lost to most people I talk to. I think it hasn't dawned on most people that Boba entered the franchise as a villain, and I love that you caught on to the feeling of "uh-oh" his return subtly brings. Just like you said, Din *isn't* Boba. Boba is ruthless, coldly efficient, and lacks whatever ever good qualities the Mando traditions prescribe onto their followers. He shows up and while it's good to see him in action, we're only seeing him on the positive end of the spectrum. We cheer him on because when we catch up with Boba, he's on our side. The Mandalorian gives fans what they've been cheering for, the bad-ass, unstoppable anti-hero Boba smiting our enemies and looking away from explosions without breaking a sweat. Good: It gave fans the power-fantasy. And now it's up to the next set of writers to show us why that fantasy should have never been realized when one of the scariest people in the Galaxy ends up targeting some of the other characters we love for whatever reason. It's wonderful, and I truly hope Boba Fett gets to live up to the hype. I want to be able to hate him as much as his enemies fear him. Great revival of the character.

My favourate star wars film is a new hope, unlike all the other star wars films, the first 3rd of a new hope is slow and not much happens, Its primarily 2 droids wondering the desert while we learn of the world and lore through their dialogue, the war, the rebels and the plans the death star, and then they meet Luke and Lukes meets obiwan, it has such a beautiful simpilcity that made it work, and to me mandalorian season 1 ep 1-3 really capture that, this show isnt perfect but its creators really understand the roots of what made star wars work, its inspirations of old tv cereals and westerns, its simple story telling on the small screen, and its no wonder why we see George on set on the mandalorian, cause he loves what they are doing, unlike the sequels which were bloated generic modern scifi films that looked like star wars but werent star wars at the heart of the story

I’m surprised that you didn’t feel the legacy characters were lore fan service nonsense as I found them entirely unrelated to the story at hand (and finding out later they served as backdoor pilots didn’t help). Especially the finale undermining the scene of the final goodbye.
@finalninjazero5140
@finalninjazero5140 2 жыл бұрын
I mean the video kinda directly talks about it, they weren't unrelated at all, their inclusions work with the show's intentions if you actually pay attention to the story being told. Even the finale, sure it's a big moment fans would clap for but the fact it's so big is also a sign of how big the Mandalorian's impact on this world has become when he decided to forge his own path. That's literally the point the video was making that you seemed to ignore.
@foodplsOld

@@finalninjazero5140 My comment is in direct response that part of his video. I’m not here to argue, I’m just saying I didn’t have the same response and was voicing my surprise at how his viewing experience differed from mine. Mando S2 for me was the continuation of a trend starting with TROS where a well told, mostly original story is bogged down with legacy callbacks. In both cases it personally took quite a bit of its appeal away from the original narrative it was trying to tell to the point major story moments are treated as footnotes to “remember this thing?”
@LordofLions

@@foodplsOld Gonna have to disagree with this. Its not just memberberries if what Filoni and Favreau are trying to do is make a "Mando-Verse" of connected stories and characters. Before Season 2 was released, they mentioned taking inspiration from Game of Thrones.
