It's good that this video mentioned the actual situation about Mandarin third tone, the falling/rising is only used in isolated context.

I've tried to learn so many languages these past years just because I love them all and I get so glad when I start one, come to this channel and see that there's a video about it here! Thanks for your hard work.

After the disappointment of watching you Dutch pronunciation video I am glad I watched this one. I lived and worked in Taiwan and China for 22 years and though I never applied myself I speak the language enough to get around, order food, read message, street and place names, menus(can be really fascinating), etc... This was a very good intro to Chinese pronunciation. I have always found that once you got the basics down Chinese is a pretty simple (though not easy) language to learn. I love the Traditional characters as they convey more meaning.

Strictly speaking, 妈(ma1) and 马(ma3) are not homophones since although they have the same initial and final, they have different tones.

It's not just Taiwan; zh/ch/sh are generally merged with z/c/s south of the Yangtze River. This distinction is typically a northern one, whereas most southern topolects have lost it to time.
