They are talking specifically about foreigners who live in China. Of course such persons will be generally more adventurous and open minded. But they are not much representative of the population of the country they came from. If these Chinese people go visit some places in the US or Europe, they might get very disappointed.

Wah thanks for confirming this. I'm from Vietnam, and I always have a feeling that foreigners I have talked with (mostly from the US or Australia) are too nice, friendly and knowledgeable compared to what I see on TV and Netflix. I guess it takes a certain type of personality to venture here.

Yes, and also you'll get plenty of spoiled rich kids traveling. Some will cause trouble partying. Those people tend to do it in the US as well as China. That kind of thing goes both ways between countries. I agree that it's not representative cross section of the United States. I'd be nervous about being out of line in other cultures, or getting close to the line partying, even in my younger years. Some are pretty strict.

Very good honest video expressing pros and cons, I like some serious topics. This video is suppose to be for learning and love of Chinese language and culture so what's with the comment trolls who just criticize, why are you here? I think it's very honest what real local people think and what many Chinese say in private, a lot of it stemming from western media. Unfortunately with today's increasingly negative political climate, the perception today on both sides is far worse than 4 years ago when this video was made, as we see in some of the bad comments. Unfortunately the anti-China trolls just reaffirm the cons/dislikes said in the video, so they feed off each other.

TOO FAST? Control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time on desktop computers and laptops OR 25% at a time on smartphone! Access the playback speed controls as follows: Desktop Computers and Laptops: open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time. Smartphones: open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. Note that viewing the video on desktop computer/laptops gives you greater control over the playback speed (5% vs 25% on smartphones).

Thanks Eileen. Great video as always both from a learn chinese angle and general interest. for the record here are some things I like about Chinese people. 1. They generally have strong family bonds. Don't underestimate how important this is for well being. 2. Chinese people are extremely courteous. 3.Chinese culture goes back centuries - it is really rich. 4. Chinese people generally work hard. 5. I would like chinese people (especially my students) show a bit more confidence - but being humble has merit as well! Keep up the good work Eileen!

I think this video illustrates the problem with Chinese perception of the World. It puts ALL people of many different cultures into ONE category - foreigners, as if there were no difference between people of Peru and people of Canada. It seems like for Chinese there are only two kinds of people - Chinese and not-Chinese without any differentiation among non-Chinese people. I will tell you a secret - There are hundreds of different cultures in this World and people of different cultures might be very very different. There is no such culture as "Foreigners" and there is nothing in common among them, except one thing - they are all people just like all Chinese people are. Everything else about "foreigners" is going to vary in pretty much every aspect.

In my view,I think the reason why Southeast Asia (particularly, Filipinos)make fun of Chinese language is because we havent yet see the beautiful side of it。I’m one of those people who laugh while hearing Cantonese people talk。This was when I was still in college。 The reason I find it hard to stop laughing because It’s VERY UNCOMMON to hear the words ”chang, tong, gong, jing” from my day to day life。So,I felt like im in an alien world。Right now,Im learning Mandarin Chinese, and Im actually loving it。People just need to open up themselves to new things。 Actually,Chinese accent wasn’t the only one I laugh at before。I also laugh at Thai language, and still is。

Peace

About western people : there are big difference between for example north americans, french or portuguese people. Ever has his own caracter, and in France there are also, even now, regional particularities (and accents in langage). People in towns are indifferent each others, it's only in little towns or village that they communicate and fraternize easily with their neighbours.

I can’t talk for others but I can talk for myself and the experiences in America as an Asian immigrant (this gives me a clear perspective of both side). - First, because America has been such a diversed nation since its creation, it just natural to be open-minded and accept everything that is throwing at you. - I don’t know about the past but modern America culture gravitate towards extroverts, it’s really forcing you to be an extrovert. (🥺 me suffers of introvert-ness). www.quora.com/Why-does-American-culture-tend-to-be-more-extroverted-than-introverted. (These are some answers of why) - For creativity wide, just being non communism just works :))) - Doing crazy things just call “peer-pressure” for me. Sometimes it might be not but you just do so much of it and realized it’s not that bad and kinda fun. - For those who do or do not wonder why we all have the eurocentric beauty standard of (white skin, high nose, blue eyes) is partly due to the whole European wanting to conquer the world and Imperialism :))) our survival traits just pop up I guess. I mean yah being like them at that time would mean you live a better life, get treat better. Now it’s just like what the majority likes so just so with the flow. ( I watched a very good video that explained this topic very well but I can’t find it😭) :))) and also if someone said that you look “normal”, just know that you are decently good-looking. Just some evolutional psychology stuff. A good way to understand “things” is to dig the grave of our ancestors a.k.a History. I want to bring up the fact of hunting gathering and agriculture but haven’t found any proves😃🙄🌍🧐🙇‍♀️😞

What a great video. China should have the right attitude towards foreigners, mustn’t think they are more superior and our fellow native people are inferior. It is we Chinese that boost their sense of superiority and make them look down upon us. In the past, China is not as developed. But now China is a super power. A lot of the western countries like US and Canada are very backward in their infrastructure. A lot of foreigners jaw drop when they see China new development and efficient life practices. Chinese misunderstand. The foreigners didn’t come from advanced countries. I hope China can treat all criminals the same as native and mustn’t give foreign criminals special treatment as consequences to social instability can be serious.

dude.... the woman speak so fast compared to the guy, the guy is way more easier to understand. I also feel that her pronounciation is not as accurate as his, but maybe its just an impression

Many of these opinions come out of ignorance and talking about the rest of the world as 1 thing/country/ethnic group of people. There are roughly 200 other countries so to put them all in 1 basket is very naive. I understand these are stereotypes but no countries or people are the same. Travelling can relieve this bias towards both people from all countries and Chinese.

She's conducting an interview for the purpose of getting the respondents to explain and give examples. Of course she's going to ask for examples and explanations

@@maowcat1587 It's still too pushy in my opinion. No typical of American interviewers, unless the subject is a politician or something.

@@FirstLast-zu2dc this is an interview for the purpose of language learning, the topic itself is actually 2nd on the list. Thats why she is pushy for explanations and examples. If you are wondering what nornal chinese interviews are like just look at any game show with celebs on them

This video is very good, both confirming and enlightening culturally, while challenging my Chinese to the hilt. Thanks so much for listening to the suggestions! Much much better formatting :)
