the only 2 ways i see around this are; use a roaming phone plan from your home country. (like Tmobile roaming, Google Pixel global plan, etc.) or.. don't have a SIM card in the PH. just use whatever wifi signal is available to message using an app. but you won't have a wifi signal everywhere you go. only at home or where it's available in a resto or airport.

I have a phone from the Philippines I bought prepandemic and I plan to return within a year. How about on return to the PH I register my US phone and roaming plan and just buy load for my existing PH phone? Would that work??? I get to keep the old number and skip the hassle. Thanks for the update!!!

The problem with that idea is they are not concerned with the phone. They control the activation/deactivation of the sin card. So even if you are bringing your phone with the existing sim card, if that sim card is not registered by that April date, it will get deactivated regardless. I also heard that tourist with ACR cards may also get put in exempt status which would take care of the long term tourist folks, because to stay long term, you must get ACR card. Does not apply to SRRV as they are exempt from ACR cards.
@Lifebeyondthesea
@Lifebeyondthesea Жыл бұрын
what matters is the SIM card, not the phone it is in. the SIM is either a PH carrier, or a foreign carrier. PH only has the ability to deactivate a Globe or PLDT carrier SIM.

I realize that even locals will have to register but getting your Filipina to do it cuts out the whole 30 day problem. If you don't have anyone, I see Sari-Sari stores registering them for you for a few pesos. Hell, I see Sari-Sari stores selling pre-registered SIMs for a slightly higher price. Regardless, the rules will change 27 times before this is over. No foreigner staying any length of time is going to register a Sim every 30 days. Especially if they have to produce an onward ticket, change their number, deal with the havoc that causes using banking/ grab apps etc. They will simply do what every Filipino without ID will do and have someone else register it for them. Hell, if anything all they have done is created a market for registered SIMs that do not deactivate after 30 days.

the thing is, anyone who is up to no good (scammers), will just register it with a fake name, fake address unless registration means uploading a copy of ID. which produces a new problem for so many filipinos who don't have proper ID. and then there is the SIM card in the prepaid routers, registering those or else they get deactivated in april/2023.

I also have SRRV and not sure on anything yet. I did hear one possible way it will go for those that travel back and forth. Since the 30 day deactivation does not apply, and the SRRV visa has no expiration, and the sin card will not expire as long as you keep a load on it, It doesn’t matter if you leave the country or not. You come and go, As long as sim does not deactivate DUE TO NO LOAD, all should be good with only the original registration. Now I have no idea if that is what it will be. There are rumors everywhere, and no one knows right now.

When I extended my tourist visa you must have a local number for them to contact you. They will not accept you visa extension application without a philippine number. You will no longer be able to use another person's number to put on your application because if the check that number and it is not registered to you then you might be accused of giving false information on a government document. Let the fun begin!

I'm a long-term tourist and use gcash to pay my living expenses. Gcash is linked to my cell number. If sims are deactivated every 30 days, gcash will become useless for someone like me. Maybe I'm misunderstanding. But it appears the law was created inside a silo. With limited collaboration with immigration or at least a review of how the new law conflicts with existing long-term visa policy.

Gio did a vlog recently, suggesting that with SKYPE, you can get a number anywhere in the world, including the Philippines. In that case, there would be no need to register the number with the telco, since the "telco" is skype! Surely scammers will be a wake-up to this and do it that way, and not be traceable? I haven't tried it, I'm just going by what Gio said.

I don't see how the necessity to show an onward ticket serves any purpose here. Not even Immigration are asking for that on visa extensions. It's going to result in foreigners either not buying and using sims here (lost revenue to the PTE's) or them getting a Filipino to register for them, which works against the point of the program. Just remove the onward ticket requirement and of course foreigners will register to keep their number.

The next logical step is then the introduction of a tax, on phone ownership once everybody has been forced to register their sim, the lawyers must have been really hard at work on thiis. In the "western" world a mobile phone can also be easily traced by its individual IMEI number, as the "bad" people typically have a good supply of sim cards, and numbers can be easily cloned!!
