Neutrogena Bright Boost Gel Cream has Mandelic Acid as its 4th ingredient. It also has Gluconolactone (PHA). It's quite effective at exfoliating and brightening. It's also pretty accessible. Costco sells a huge 2-pack set. However it does contain fragrance. I wish they would make an unscented version!

Hi Sarah, Another cleanser with mandelic acid that you may want to try is Neostrata Clarify (Mandelic clarifying cleanser). It contains salicylic acid too and no fragrance. The value is pretty good because the full-size tube is 200ml (6.8 FL oz.). Let me know if you check it out ☺️

If your skin can handle Bha and aha and more importantly you can see good results using them then these are what your skin prefers. Bha and aha are powerful anti-aging exfoliants but not everyone’s cup of tea. Mandalic and lactic acids are also great milder options for sensitive skin or irritated skin due to the usage of acne medicines and treatment. Also, some people find these mild acids (mandalic&lactic) more effective and they work better than AHA or BHA so I guess it depends on your skin type and what it prefers.

Mandelic acid and lactic acid are AHAs. I think you seem to be under the impression that glycolic acid = AHA when AHAs are actually an umbrella term for glycolic, lactic, mandelic acid etc.

my favorite mandelic acid products right now are the Chemist Confessions Specialist Treatment, which has 18% mandelic, 2% salicylic, and 5% niacinamide and it can be used as a wash off mask, spot treatment, leave on exfoliant, or a booster for your moisturizer and it works great for me each way, also the Neostrata mandelic clarifying cleanser is one of the most gentle/hydrating but effective exfoliating cleansers ive found, it has a blend of mandelic and gluconolactone plus salicylic acid, it does have some tea tree oil which i personally like, but otherwise no fragrance

I think AHAs overall have been under appreciated recently. Everyone is hyping up azelaic acid and salicylic acid so much. Even PHAs seem to get more mentions. But the AHAs have their place. Half of the population would probably benefit more from AHAs. And mandelic acid is antibacterial and anti fungal, so it does have its uses. Terrible exfoliant really though

Love how lactic acid is hydrating and compliments ascorbic acids brightening/lightening effects. I also love that mandelic acid is more oil soluble than other AHA’s - it makes it good for my acne prone skin but is gentler than salicylic acid. I find alternating lactic acid, mandelic acid & salicylic acid is the most effective way to get all the benefits they can offer. I do think glycolic acid is overrated though - Jack of most trades, master of none. I use some type of AHA product every other day. I just use low-strength products most often to avoid overexfoliation. My routine definitely feels complete when I use AHA/BHA

Hi Sarah I really like the by wishtrend 5% toner for my ultra sensitive, rosacea and eczema prone skin. Most of my exfoliating and cell turnover comes from my azelaic acid, retinoid and urea in my routine, but once a week I use an AHA/BHA prior to a hydrating mask. I usually use a 1% BHA in the t zone (the PC calm 1% BHA), with the 5% mandelic toner on the perimeter of the face, neck and chest. I do sometimes miss out the BHA and use this all over instead - depending on what my skin is looking like. I find it to be gentle enough for my sensitive skin and truthfully can use it more often if needed. This is enough with my other actives though, most of the time. The evening I use the AHA/BHA I miss out the azelaic acid and retinoid for info. I do find mandelic acid to be effective enough to do something, without causing irritation/flares of rosacea. I haven't tried the others due to how long any exfoliant lasts me, used once a week. The by Wishtrend is pretty affordable for a decent amount and works well for me. I used it a bit more often in the height of Summer (in the morning) to keep the pores clearer, related to all the extra long wear spf etc. A bottle lasts me months, as I'm using it fairly infrequently. Mandelic works better for me than the other AHA's do, with less stinging/irritation and I'm happy with it. Best wishes.

I'm a huge fan of mandelic acid and have four of the ones you featured here. Personal faves are probably the Wishtrend and the Allies of Skin. The Ordinary's version is also an awesome budget option and works wonderfully. The indie brand Chemist Confessions does a much stronger mandelic acid formulation, consisting of 18% mandelic, 5% niacinamide and 2% salicylic acid. They recommend mixing a drop in with your moisturizer. Worth checking out!

Have you seen the new YTTP mandelic acid? I’m intrigued. I have closed comedones and Paula’s Choice BHA 2% has not helped at all. I’ve used Biologique P1970, PC, and trying to incorporate Differin but I have bumps no matter what I try. I have been through two bottles of Biologique and PC so it’s not like I just waited a week for it to work lol. I’m thinking I should try mandelic because I’m noticing that I do have some sensitivity and seems like it might be less skin barrier damage.

I really liked YTTP's other exfoliating toner and I was checking out their new one with mandelaic acid. Looks pretty good with the exception of the rosewater and rosemary. Might have to pick it up when sephora has their fall sale (hopefully they do it this year)! The other toner with Mandelaic Acid I really like is the one from Wishtrend, really wonderful and super affordable.

unfortunately mandelic acid doesn't agree with my skin. I used the wishtrend for 2 weeks and had to stop bcos i feel uncomfortable and oily & tiny bumps started to appear. it just get worse so I had to stop. not sure why, is it bcos the molecules are too big so it clog my pores? 🤣 I'm not good with chemistry but it doesn't make my skin looks any better for sure. my skin love lactic acid, been using that for 3 years!
