I think the Lapras mom being a pale colour was just to signify that she's old and weathered. There's really no easy ways to age a Pokémon, they seem ageless lolol

@@markpagtama7954 the Noctowl ash had and the red gyarados sparkle when coming out of their pokeball, those are shinies, shinies dont just have a different coloration than normal, they sparkle, i thought the word shiny came about because of the sparkle they have, most of the ones he named are just color variations like vivilon, not shinies

I wouldn't say the Pokémon from the Orange Islands are "shiny Pokémon." Just chalk them up to regional variants, like Alolan Pokemon.

I actually just watched that very episode and the pokémon professors talk about the pokémon being , and I quote, “Regional Variations”. It’s not so out of the question to think that perhaps when coming up for ideas on their latest games they looked back at Season 2 of the anime and decided to expand upon the idea of regional variations. Further more, with Pinkan Island, At one point Ash’s pikachu eats a berry and it’s tail béguins to turn pink. Officer Jenny tells them that If the pokémon where to stop eating the berries, they would turn back into normal colors. I don’t think it is fair then to consider these Shiny Pokémon.

@@Fobia17 it was also before shiny pokemon even existed (gen 1) so that excuse doesn't work. They fall under the definition of a regional pokemon form better than shinies. Just because it was unintentional doesn't mean it would still count

I would say that shiny Pokémon were well established behind the scenes, at that point. I very specifically remember connecting them in my head, the first time I heard about shiny Pokémon

My favorite part of Stadium was how all the Pokemon had slightly differnt tints so your Pikachu could be anything from bright yellow to deep orange. I really wish the main games had incorporated that. It really increased attachment to your specific mons.

According to the Ruby dex entry, Kecleon can change its body colour except for the stripe on its belly, so it actually makes more sense that colour differences in Kecleon is shown on the stripe. As for the purple Kecleon, maybe it likes the colour and decides to be purple instead of green as its default?

Yeah, I could agree they are more like regional or variant forms rather than false shinies. I don't think different colors are enough of a definition of shiny. I think that also has to do with rarity and the little sparkle. Many Pokémon have alternate forms that are alternate colorations, even beyond regional variants, though interestingly there are a lot of alternate colors inconsistent with the main series games, it's still crazy to think about.

The Orange islands and Pinkun island is more of a regional variant style rather than shiny. Edit: The passimian is more of island variant rather than shiny. The snowmen Snorlax are indeed regional variants. Just because it wasn’t a thing back then doesn’t mean that wasn’t the original intention.

If it’s from a different region and had differences in appearance that are vastly different than just color, like body alterations like the snowmen snorlax. Then it’s a regional variant. The butterfree May have been the shiny variant before the official was finalized or even a gender difference. Course the episode is older, and I grew up on it.

I don’t think the Magikarps count as wrong shinies. They seem more like color variants like with spinda or vivillon to me (and I would actually really love it if they were in the main series game), but I get where you’re coming from

When it comes to different patterns like on Butterfree's wings and Vileplume's petals, I like to think of them as regional forms. Especially since ALL the Butterfree in that area looked like that. As for all the others, I'd love to see them do a second shiny color in the future. Instead of two different types of sparkles (stars vs squares in Sword and Shield), I'd really love to see a second actual shiny, so you could for example find a regular Charizard, a black Charizard or a purple Charizard. Perhaps a regular Gengar, the barely noticeable shiny Gengar we know now, or a white Gengar, etc. They could be the real super rare "ultra shinies" that people have been calling their square shinies, lol.

@@mr.preston1632 Maybe it was partly that. But it seemed like it was there to show that her fire bending was especially powerful and burned with greater intensity. When her fire ignited other stuff or dissipates it turns orange and red like regular fire.

The Orange Islands part of the anime ended before Pokemon Gold & Silver released. So the mother Lapras, Pinkun Island, and Valencia Island pokemon, were all featured in the anime before shiny Pokemon existed in the games, just like the Pink Butterfree. You can check and see the original air dates of the Anime episode in Japan, and compare that to the Japanese release date of Gold & Silver.

I find it adorable that the Pikachu smash alternate skins are mostly Pikachu wearing the hat of the male protagonist from each region. Pikachu is super cute in hats and I like the references that were made.

I usually don't cry when there's a sad episode but bye bye butterfree and the one episode where ash thinks Pikachu is happier with the other Pikachu so he trys to leave pikachu, are the saddest episodes I literally cried on both of them because I had a big liking for those two pokemon

Maybe the Magikarp Jump colorations are a similar case to Arbok's neck patterns. Meaning they can be different colors.

Angel_of_Light2007 my theory is that the magilarp used in the game were likely bred to be the colors they are for so long that they’re just about as common as regular in that area now. Kind of like how koi are just regular carp bred to look prettier

Seth McMahon Some of these pokemon on the list shouldn’t be shinies in my opinion. Deoxys and Lapras don’t change enough to be the new shinies, and Toxapex has a better official shiny rn. This is all just my opinion of course.

Lui Jesus the thing is, “Shiny” has a definition in the Pokèmon world, and while calling them “wrong” is not technically correct, they are, by definition, shiny.

@@M3G4T3RR4 Then wouldn't you consider regional variants to be shiny? Bc that's what many of these examples are in the video. Shiny is still understood to be a specific thing. This video has many examples that arent considered shiny due to the understanding of what a shiny is, no matter what the definition is. Definitions are not the defining factors of language. It is the understanding of the idea being communicated between person A and person B. Definitions can be helpful, but they can be flawed and not describe the meanings of words as they are understood.

Here: I just want to note that none of these are ‘wrong shinies’ because the majority of them aren’t shinies. Bulbapedia is a *fan made* website. It isn’t official. A shiny has a different coloration, but just because a pokemon is colored differently doesn’t make it a shiny.

Headcanon - Orange islands variants is our first introduction to regional variants Although my headcanon is also that we have regional variants from generations in subtle ways like gen 3-5 gengar having levitate - that can pass imo as a regional difference, doesn’t all have to be design changes

Shinies have changed form gen 3 and even gen 4.some shinies where changed in gen 6 such as Garchomp who in gen 4 was barely different from his original form. But in gen 6 shiny Garchomp was changed to have more of an orange stomach and a more grayish blue skin. And then there’s the most recent shiny changes with Minor and Castform with Pokémon Home.

See, I feel like many of the things you're counting as shiny are actually regional and area variants. Like, I understand they fit in the definition you're using, but many are obviously not meant to be considered shiny pokemon. Language isnt just decided by definitions. They can be helpful, but meanings of words are determined by the underlying understanding of the message being transferred from person A to person B. Many of these examples are not within what people consider to be shiny, bc shiny pokemon are a specific thing and not something as broad as the definition suggests. If anything, it just proves the definition is flawed and needs to be fixed.

Honestly, it feels wrong to call these "wrong" shinies. Perhaps "unusual shinies" would be a better way to word it, don't you think? Also, for the alternate colors in Pokken, I wouldn't even call those shinies because the Pokemon aren't even those colors. As can be seen when they're sent out, the 2nd player uses a normal version of that Pokemon, which then has alternate colors projection mapped onto their bodies using what must to some form of futuristic hologram technology. This is also something clearly made for the sake of the Pokken league, as all of them have a red, blue, and green stripe along their body to indicate that they're battling with Pokken colors

Speaking of Butterfree, TV Tropes informs that the anime kind of didn't mean to accidentally, unintentionally, unknowingly made Ash's Butterfree -homosexual,- due to the one he fell in love with not having the distinctive female patches on the wings. This was fixed in the first reboot movie.

I believe that the Zygarde core's hexagons were meant to match up with the colours on 100% form's chest, so there would be five different cores; red, blue, orange, purple and white. But I guess they gave up on that...

The official Pokémon company at one point did mention about wanting to have many multiple variations of Pokémon design/color to make them more like real animals, they just never mentioned how/when/where that would be done.

Yeah you really have to be careful with kecleon if your going to try to steal from kecleon I would have a trawl orb or a pure seed but if your going to use a trawl orb make sure you use it near the stairs and make sure kecleon is not near you either when you use it

Fun fact, in the anime, toxicroak (my favorite pokemon) is always depicted as having turquoise skin like it's in game shiny sprite, except that its poison sack and spikes stay red like it's normal sprite instead of pinkish purple like the official shiny sprite. It's interesting to me that every toxicroak in the anime is technically a wrong shiny because they never draw it with its standard dark blue skin.

The next Kanto remake should include the Orange Islands or the Orange Islands should get it's own game. Granted the Orange Islands probably inspired the Alola, but it's not exactly the same, I think it'd be cool for players to finally be able to catch a Crystal Onix.

Violet is between blue and purple on the colour spectrum. Though I doubt that they’re very specific about the ‘violet’ shade they use, it’s probably just a random purple shade. The same way as taking a random yellow shade and calling it ‘sunshine’.

@@AimzS94 Violet is between blue and ultraviolet on the spectrum. Purple is just a perceived color when you mix red and blue. Violet can actually be seen when you split light using a prism. And Violet has wavelengths therefore is an actual color on its own. Purple can only be made by mixing red and blue.

We seen in the anime that other multiverses can interact with each other. (Mentioning XY anime) Also there are shinies that can change. (Like the video stated that Charizard Shiny changed.) "the pink" butterfree was made pink to differ the GENDER for the audience. also i believed they made lapras 's mother a lighter shade of blue to allow the audience differ it from the other lapras. *Pokemon Genders from the show are often showed differently for a easier way to differ* so they might not be shinies but the show presenting the different genders.

The pinkan Island pokémon are understandable as it's possible in real life. Pink flamingos are born with white feathers but due to their diets of pink krill and other such things, their feathers change color as they age. The pinkan berries are doing the same thing with the pokémon.
