Whoa yeah! Progressive Rock! This is what Susumu Hirasawa did when he was younger, even before he started his New-Wave-but-then-something-else band P-Model. He thought Prog had gotten too commercial, haha. Why isn't Mandrake considered a real classic band? it was just as good as Yes, in my opinion.

This sounds like King Crimson, Yes and Electric Light Orchestra got drunk in a bar in Shibuya and birthed this. Fantastic. Had no idea Hirasawa had a prog band.

Mandrake was the name but they didn't release anything during their activity, the only recordings of them come from some live bootlegs and an official unreleased material" album that Susume released in 1997

Just as good as Yes? That's a pretty heavy claim, but ok. Hirasawa is brilliant. I'm sure you're not too far off

Mandrake had few songs but find me a Yes song as good as Syuumatsu no Kajitsu or Kazarimado no Dekigoto. Cause I searched and nothing came close

@@titimilidbz Close to the Edge, Heart of the Sunrise, Machine Messiah, And You and I. I could go on, but still, Mandrake is pretty awesome.

@@DerpASherpa117 I like Close to the Edge, but it gets boring after a while. Relayer and Fragile are good as well, but I find Anderson's vocals rather annoying (for some reason in Close to the Edge that's not a problem). What makes Mandrake amazing to listen to and forbids it to ever become stale, I believe is the atypically outrageous energy and style; mix of dark, melancholic, and yet exciting. It really pisses me off that they stopped doing prog rock for that New Wave crap (Potpourri and Perspective excluded), but that it ended in such a tragical way (piss poor recording only released ~20 years later) kind of adds to its romance.
