Her singing is good, but she has no concept of adapting the song to the character singing it. He however, is a master.

Update: I used to be obsessed with this video but apparently I never heard how flat/breathy/pitch y/off Mandy Moore was singing. Woof. I mean, we'll always have the memories.

Mandy has seriously improved since this came out, she has much more control over her voice. Pascal has moments I like, I've always been a bigger fan of masculine belts. and I just realized its Pascal.... s in Didney

JoNaSLuVr7997 , i'm not gonna lie, I LOVED Ellen Greene in this role. She was perfect for the role. She may not have had the voice for it, but she was believable. I think Moore could be believable in the role as well. She would need character vocal coaching though :/

what is everyone hating on Mandy?? I've seen "Little Shop of Horrors" (movie and broadway) and IMHO she did better than any of the other girls who sang that part. Aside from that,

Mandy Moore is definitely a very talented singer, but this was a really problematic performance for her. She was pitchy, didn't have breath support and used stiff vocal folds almost the entire song. This song begs for thick and thin vocal folds. If I remember her earlier music correctly, she sang primarly using stiff folds. Everyone has off days when singing. It happens. I have heard more recent clips of her singing using thick and thin vocal folds and she sounded great. Maybe she developed them later on. If that is the case, then this was just a poor song choice that didn't play to her strengths.
