Beautiful, healthy looking mangoes. What do you feed your trees in the pots?
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 2 ай бұрын
I feed Vigoro Avocado and Citrus granular fertilizer from home depot. The rating is 6-4-6. This is a low number fertilizer. I feed about every 2 months. Daily watering is most important. Thanks for watching.

Naveed...How do you BEST holdover...or preserve your nearly fiberless mangos...so that they last the Longest ?
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 Ай бұрын
@jeff6899 Can you please further explain your question? Are you asking how the fruit last longer on the tree? or off the tree? Or if I preserve the fruit to last multiple months?

Awesome garden. What are your 3 most productive varieties and that harvest well for you? Thanks for vids
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 Ай бұрын
@damehinojosa334 Production varies between the trees every year based on a few factors. The most productive trees last year were Mahachanok, Malika, and Duncan. The most productive by nature are Duncan and Sweet Tart. When these become big trees, they will beat everyone else every year.

Can I put you on the spot and ask what your favorite tasting varieties are? I also have a manilla (from HD) in-ground in phoenix that I'd like to replace or at least graft on to. The fruit is, as you say, 'okay' but nothing to get excited about.
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 7 күн бұрын
@dook8810 Favorite are Lemon Zest, Orange Sherbert, Malika, and Fruit Punch. But there are many other wonderful vsrities also. Manila grows very well in Phoenkx area. But the fruit is not eatable. You should graft your favorite varities on Manila tree.

Great video. What is your temperature like in the winter? Does it get cold around 30 at night in Phoenix? The reason I am asking is that I am in southern CA zone 9b and it gets pretty cold at night in the winter months, and my mango trees suffer a lot because of that. I have no problems with the heat (average 100f in the summer), but the cold is the problem.
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 11 күн бұрын
The temperature in my area in winter at night can go as low as 35. Couple of nights can go close to freezing at 32 but that is only for few hours during the night. Some of my trees do get cold damage at the top of the canopy but the damage is not that bad. Only leaves get cold damage and branches do not suffer any damage. The smaller the tree the more damage it can get. I have many trees so they shield each other from cold. If you can cover your tree from top it will help. The cold falling down from open sky does the most of the damage. Also planting under the canopy of a large tree will also help as it will shield the mango tree from open sky. Hope I was able to answer your question. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very impressive collection - your mangos are much larger than mine at this point in the year. Are you located in Phoenix where it's a bit hotter than the suburbs? I assume you don't provide warmth for this many mangos in winter!

@TouchGrassGardening Thank you. Yes, I am located in northwest Phoenix. Correct, I do not cover, nor do I provide any warmth for the mango trees. Thanks for watching and commenting.

what is your fertilizing “routine” for mahachanok, with what do you fertilize and when for a whole year?, and what about watering, I live in a very arid and hot climate, 42 Celsius to 49.
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 11 күн бұрын
I fertilize every two months. Before flowering and up to formation of small fruit, I fertilize with 0-0-20 fertilizer. For watering, since my mango trees are in raised beds, I water daily in summer and every 2 to 3 days in winter. Initial planting of mango tree is the MOST important part. If you do not plant correctly, the tree will keep struggling. Good luck. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great video - very impressive wall of mangos 🥭💪🏽 I was wondering about planting a Glenn mango (3gal) near my wall that faces east and shields from west. Do you have the mangoes facing east?
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 11 күн бұрын
Yes, I have mangoes facing east, west and south. Mango tree will grow great anywhere in the garden as long as it is taken care of and planted properly. Also if you have more space, I would advise to plant mango tree at least 5 to 8 feet away from the wall. But sometimes we do not have a choice. Like I have a very small garden. I have planted them as close as 3 feet from the wall. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@TheNaveed787

Bombay mango tree is growing fine in 25 gallon tree. It skipped flowering this year, that is why it is not in this video. Duncan produced about 12 mangoes. I think it is in this video. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Impressive production on your potted mangoes! How frequently do you have to up pot into larger containers? How long can you keep them in 15-gallon pots?
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 Ай бұрын
I do not gradually up pot. For example many people will up pot slowly from 3g to 7g to 15g to 25g and so on. I will also plant in the biggest pot available right away. I have planted 3g mango trees directly in 15g and 25g pots and they have done very good and still continue to do very well. In my experience you can keep a 3g tree in 15g pot for about 3 years max. After 3 years it would be good to up pot them to 25g to keep good growth rate and strong growth. Although the tree can live in 15g pot for many years. I have Keitt in 15g pot for 8 years. It grows super slow due to root bound. But it still produces 6 to 8 mangoes every year. If I was to put it in ground or 25g or higher gallon pot, it will start to grow faster and stronger because the root ball will start to grow and there will be more roots to supply more water and food to the tree.

My garden is ultra small. My house lot is only 7000 square feet. I have a two story big house and a pool and concrete from patio to pool. So you can see that there is almost no garden left. Most trees are planted along the east, south and west wall. I wish I had a bigger garden :)

@Naveed , I also notice in your video, that some varieties have more sun damaged then others. Is this due to location ( direct sun ) or did you notice some varieties are more susceptible to heat damage?
@TheNaveed787
@TheNaveed787 Ай бұрын
To some extent what you saw is correct. Although all new mango growth can burn above 100F, I have notice that some varieties get more sun damage then others. For example, I have noticed/experienced that Sugar loaf, coconut cream, valcarrie new growth gets more sun damage than Kesar, Alphonso, Edward, Malika and Mahachanook. Mature leaves are less likely to get sun damage than new growth.
@joji6485

This is exactly I was thinking that established varieties from India / Pak are more tolerant to heat than US/Florida varieties. It make sense as well since backhome it’s normal to have daily temp 100+ during growing season.
@marcuswelby921
@marcuswelby921 Ай бұрын
@@TheNaveed787 I agree with you about Sugar loaf and coconut cream getting sun damage. After experiencing this i keep both in the sun for about 2-3 hours then they are placed in a shaded area(Florida).

The big falsa tree indicates that you have good microclimate / growing conditions I am in bayarea 9B and my falsa plant ( yeah it’s tiny) dies to ground level every year due to cold ( frost / freeze) and comeback as a small bush Hopefully more trees around will also provide some protection in future
