Mango tree propagation may be accomplished by either planting seeds or through the grafting of mango trees. When propagating by seed, trees take longer to produce fruit and are more difficult to manage than those that have been grafted, thus mango tree grafting is the preferred method of propagation. Grafting is not difficult provide you keep a few things in mind. Along with using healthy rootstock, use only healthy scions or bud wood with active buds. Although bud wood can be wrapped in plastic and stored in the refrigerator for a time, for best results, use fresh scion wood. Practice good sanitation. Think about grafting as doing surgery. Attempt your grafting during the warmest months of the year when temps are above 64 F. (18 C.). There are a few grafting methods that are successful with mangos. These include wedge or cleft grafting, chip budding and whip grafting, but the most reliable method is veneer grafting.

This is called air-layering, grafting is a little different, some fruits do not grow into the same type of variety of their mother plant, therefore they will not bear the same fruit of the plant that grew them, for example: a hass avocado fruit that came from a hass avocado tree will not grow into a tree that bears hass avocado, that's because like us humans, our children will not be the same exact human as us, this is where grafting takes place in plants, it is the act of growing a plant from seed, once it reaches the appropriate size, it will then be stripped of its leaves, the upper stem will then be cut off, then the plant will be cut vertically, at least an inch or so, then a branch or a cutting from a tree that bears a preferable variety of the fruit will be cut off, of course it has to have the same or similar width to the rootstock(seed-grown plant) the bottom of the cutting or branch will then be cut and shaped into a V, cut long enough so it fits perfectly inside the rootstock, then it'll be wrapped in grafting tape or just about anything that'll keep it air and water tight, but it shouldn't be too tight otherwise the graft will fail, it is to be kept under the shade, once it produces little leaves, it can be grown normally like a seed-grown plant, but you'll have to remove the leaves from the rootstock.

That's not grafting. You're rooting a mango tree branch and making a whole new tree from it. Grafting is different.
