@@LadiiRudenezss718 Thank you so much, my dearest sister. It is the nicest thing anyone has said to me in quite a while. Unfortunately, there is still a lot about Caribbean music that I don't know - but I'm improving little by little. Larga vida y mucha prosperidad (Long life & much prosperity to you). Y que Dios la bendiga (May God bless you).

Ramkabharosa You’re very welcome, dear ☺️ And thank you💛 Your name in the comments section has always been familiar whenever I dig into historical gems on KZfaq. Honestly I give you props for researching these lost treasures, just like that one saying “old is gold.“ If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from?

RadhaMaharani-bahen, I am of course Indian - but since I spent a lot of time outside India, I am only half-crooked. Since I am from Bihar, I am only half-crazy - and since I went to an English-medium school, I am only half-stupid. I am very proud of the people from the Caribbean (and from Mauritius & Fiji also) because they have held on to the good things while discarding most of the not so good things - but every once in a while, some revert to the old ways!

Ramkabhar🌞sa, wow that is truly interesting! I try to dabble with research too, but I find that there’s a gap because I’m not familiar with various cultures and styles in India. Do you have a platform that you post your findings?

As sung by Mangroo Badal of Nieuw Nickerie, Distrikt of Nickerie, Suriname in 1977. 0.(Ref) Go 'round come down bhaujī-gyal, pīse masālā.(2) Pīse masala (grind spices), ajī (bhaujī) pīse masala. Go 'round come down Bhaujī-girl, pīse masālā.(2)(Āṛāūī) 1. Your hair is like silver, your body is like gol` (gold). Your face is like an angel, [jangal=jungle; jhanjhat=mess] you took away my soul. Ajī pīse masālā. (Refrain) 2.When you walk in the corner, I'll give you a ripe banana. When (if) you begin to holler, I'll feed you yanganā (?). Ajī pīse masālā. (Refrain) 3. When you go on road, you wear your shirt and pants. When you meet your saiyā (beloved), you take off & you dance. Ajī pīse masālā. (Refrain) 4.Your hands are full of gold girl, you can't wash a bowl. You only have the role, girl, to torment my soul. Ajī pīse masālā. (Refrain) ------------------------ As sung by Joyce Ormela Harris from Canal No.1 Polder, West Bank Demerara, Guyana in 1974. 0.(Ref) Go ‘round, come ‘round bhaujī-girl; pīse masala.(2) Pīse masālā (grind spices), ajī pīse masālā. (ṛāūī) Go 'round, come 'round bhaujī-girl, pīse masālā. (2) 1. Bhaujī had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow; and everywhere that bhaujī went, the lamb was sure to go. Ajī pīse masālā; hāyī re jin patke dulhaniyā. (Refrain) 2. My māmī picked a flower, my māusī got a bābā (child). If it wasn't for my chāchī, the family wouldn't know. Vo hī pīse masālā; hāyī re jin patke dulhaniyā. (Refrain) (She only grind spices; O Lord, the bride fell down.) 3.Never kiss an old-man, bhaujī (sister-in-law), I'll tell you why. His mouth’s always dribbling, his lips are never dry. They’re never dry; hāyī re, jin patke dulhaniyā. (Refrain) 4. When bhaujī was a little girl, they fed her dāl (or milk) and rice. When she became a big girl, they married her really nice (legalised). Now she pīse masālā; hāyī re, jin patke dulhaniyā. (Refrain) .
