We start from #Gerolimenas, a small coastal #village that will steal your heart. It has only 100 permanent residents and lies 300 km south of #Athens, 84 km from Sparta and 25 km from #Areopoli, the capital of #Mani.
It’s name derives from the ancient #Greek Hieros Limen, meaning "Sacred Harbor”. This part of #Laconia used to be quite remote until the 1970’s and was reached mainly by boat. In the past it was a major fishing center, and featured substantial #infrastructure such as a #shipyard, ice supplies, and a fish market. Today the main industry is #tourism.
The #visitor of Gerolimenas receives high quality travel #experience and services here. The combination of unspoiled nature, absence of massive tourism infrastructure and big #hotel complexes, the authenticity of the #landscape, the kindness of the locals and the supreme taste and quality of the locally produced diary, meat, fish and vegetables, is the guarantee for a magical summer #vacation.
The houses, narrow streets, the habits and traditions are the same as they used to be more than two thousand years ago.

Greek #legends claimed that there is a cave that was the home of #Hades near #Taenarum, or cape #Matapan, the southernmost point of mainland Greece, and the second southernmost point in mainland Europe. On the hill situated above the cave, lie the remnants of an ancient #temple and deads #oracle, dedicated to the sea god #Poseidon. Naval battles, human struggle, maritime disasters or bright miracles have taken place at this amazing point.
