The language of cinema is essentially what the filmmaker chooses, not based on the taste of the audience. So when they say Kaatru Veliyidai was boring, moody.. that’s the point. A story about complicated relationship needs to be told with characters complicated enough to make you uncomfortable. It’s very important to watch a film in the language of cinema rather than trying to find your own mind litter in every film.

Dude its the responsibility of the "DIRECTOR" to engage the audience and make them involve in the movie (whatever story it may be ). This is where kaatru veliyedai failed miserably.

Niranjan Thirumaal, That's a very primitive, rudimentary understanding of cinema which goes with the likes of Vijay and Ajith films and their fans. No, it's not the responsibility of the director to engage the audience. He just makes the film and you are free to see it any way you want to :)

Prasanna PRSN, Yes, Kaatru Veliyidai was a good film. It wasn't boring. It was very engaging and entertaining. There were many psychological concepts strewn around throughout in the film. However, it just fell short of being a movie and felt marginally like a non-fiction book and that's probably why it didn't relate to the audience. However, I think it was way too sophisticated and the nuances of relationships were so ingeniously shown in the film

@@bobdeni244 see this film KV has scenes which couldn't connect with majority of the audience including me . Moreover it was predictable easily . But the chauvinistic attitude connected well . May be the self realisation of the male actor is not up to the mark. For instance, i watched taramani ,another slow paced movie much longer than Kv(think so). I didn't have any issues with it barring very few. Dude the presentation of a movie is very important for the writer/director to make the audience involve(damn! we are ones who pay money after all) whatever the story may be.

Niranjan Thirumaal, Think about why you were able to connect with the chauvinistic attitude and may be, not with the woman in the film. Because you may not have empathized with women. I was able to. And understanding women is a different thing altogether. Taramani was explanatory and it was portraying it in a sense that was very close to our characters. In Mani Ratnam's films, the actors are concepts, ideas and the abstract, most of the times. They personify an emotion. They don't play the flesh and blood characters that other directors make. Mani Ratnam's is a higher dimension than portraying raw, flesh and blood characters, even as in Taramani. You are saying Taramani was slow paced. I did not feel it at all. Making it presentable is only for commercial purposes. And it's a director's and producer's personal loss or gain. And paying money need not make you so angry as to say damn, we are paying. You are entitling yourself to some fake rights over something. I said so because he did not drag you into the theater. He promotes his film but did not say, "If you won't watch, I will kill you!" And the decision of watching was entirely yours and only you were responsible for it. You can say whatever you want to about the film. That's up to you but you can't dictate a director what he ought to do just because you've damn paid money. I hope you understand the finer nuances here :)
