If you have the room in your engine compartment you can use 2 long temporary holding studs w/o the hex head to support the gasket & manifold. One long stud on each end of the head, slide on the gasket then slide on the manifold, it'll assist you while you put your first two many screws in. Another option for assistance is to use mechanics wire wrapped around the manifold leading up to a flat 2x4 above, it'll help you lower the many into place. These are my little technics I use when there isn't much room to wiggle in the engine compartment. Always work slow and patiently ya don't wanna damage any sparkplugs in the process unless your changing them anyway.

I too am not a small mechanic. I have an arriva 24' 454, the engine room is all engine no room. I used my engine hoist to lower the exhaust manifolds into position. so much easier to line up

put your hand on top of riser and it should be hot but not hot enougt too want to pull your hand off them !!!! good job at least you didn't have to call the (Guy) !!!!!!!!!!!

should get tool box for the boat with all tool you need for it in case your on the water away from tools love your films good videos lots of differnt thing oh just a thought so you dont get oil or fluids everywere just though would small litter box work should small enough to get you big hands and arm around im a big man myself but really love your channel even if your from WI lol im from MN

Great vid. Good work. Yeah they run cool, 145° is just fine. Do you plan on pulling the engine soon? When I had mine out I brazed a half pipe coupling the the oil pan drain hole with a hose long enough to exit the bilge drain hole. Makes for much easier oil changes. Best wishes.

I made a tool out of a distributer shaft to prime the oil passages before starting new engines. use my screw gun with the shaft to turn the oil pump. when I change the oil, i remove the oil line from the filter place it in a bucket. then turn the oil pump it pumps all the oil out. Only drawback is the distributor must be removed to turn the oil pump

Great video! Looking for the casting number on the exhaust tube elbows. The ones that connect to the Y pipe. With the 3 inch spacers, the stock ones (11086-C and 14343-C) seem like they would be too short. I also want to put in the 3 inch spacers. Do you have the Starboard and Port Casting numbers for those? Thank you in advance.

Hello, need help, did you remove the paint from the mating surfaces of the riser gasket? Some people say to remove paint from mating surfaces, others to leave it alone. What does mercury recomend?

You need to remove the paint. Just Use a red scotchbrite pad. What you see on the surfaces is just overspray from the factory. mating surfaces should be clean bare metal.
