Pardon me if I am wrong, yes the Philippines was colonized by Spain but never colonized by Americans since we had already declared our independence from Spain just like most nations in South and Central America. I think the appropraite term to be used is (occupied), by the Americans and thereafter the Japanese. Spain ceded the Philippines to the Americans after the Treaty of Paris and occupied the islands for almost five decades and by the Japanese forces again occupied the country for five years during the infamous WWII.

As Manila is the most historical and Hispanic city in our country, the theme of any future upgrading and new developments should run contextual to the old structures in concept. This is to further promote tourism especially if Fort Santiago is finally reconstructed and rehabilitated to look like its former grandeur pre-war self. Landscaping to follow the example of Singapore as a Garden City should be strictly adhered to. Non- vehicular roads must be identified, designated and paved with cobblestones to have an aura of Husoanic feel. Look at Singapore, they have preserved and rehabilitated all their heritage sites and buildings reinventing them to adopt to modern usage. Actually Philippines and Nanika by itself have lots of pre-Hispanic, American colonial and Art Deco Architectures than Singapore but the shortsightedness of corrupt local officials rather demolished such structures in lieu of so called developer's modern buildings with poorly designed taste. Manila should wake up!
