Colorado Springs is my hometown. I haven't lived there for many years. The Garden of the Gods was my back yard and playground---literally. My first "real" job was as a guide at the Cave of the Winds. I went from elementary school to junior high school to high school to college in C Springs. The city has changed so very much---and not for the better. One correction---the Mt. Manitou Incline---the rail-cable car ride---did not close down in the 1950s. It was still running, and very popular in the 1970s when I was last a resident there. I believe it ran until 1990 when a rock slide shut it down. It was one of the best attractions in the region. Its loss is a shame. Thank you for your video. It was fun and made me very homesick.

Sounds like it's time to go back and see it all for yourself! Old stomping grounds and all. Even tho things have changed, I imagine not everything has and you would be able find a reconnect here too! Would be cool to see CoS thru your eyes.

COLORADO IS GORGEOUS AND AS SO MUCH TO OFFER! LIVED IN COLORADO SPRINGS AS A CHILD, WITH WONDERFUL MEMORIES, BUT, _WOULD LOVE TO VISIT BEAUTIFUL MANITOU SPRINGS, DON'T REMEMBER GOING THERE. AS A CHILD BACK IN THE 5O'S, I WENT TO THE WILL ROGER'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND REMEMBER THE BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF MAJESTIC PIKES PEAK, FROM THE PLAYGROUND, WHICH LEFT A BIG IMPRESSION ON ME! We got to stay at the cliff house with a discount in October 2019 for 125.00. Corner room with dome ceiling. Beautiful area.

Manitou is a REALLY neat place! One of my favorite things to do (not listed in video) is to drive around the old Victorian neighborhoods. All the houses are so unique and seem to be built into the mountainsides. So opposite of all the cookie cutter sub-developments now-a-days.

I lived in Woodland Park and got Transferred to Tucson 30 plus years ago and I am now retired and heading back to Colorado to “play tourist” and you Videos are really getting me ready to travel. I remember the Cliff House fire, I was a volunteer firefighter in Woodland Park and knew the Firefighters who fought that blaze and now look forward to seeing the new Cliff House!!!

I used to spend most summers at the Van Horne cottages beginng in 1945 when I was six months old. I went down the steps to the Penny Arcade every night (after I was about 4 years old. ) I love and miss Manitou Springs and the Van Horne Cottages (which are no more). I have been up the Pikes Road and cog train and the Mt. Manitou incline cable car. I hope I will be able to go there again soon.

The arcade there is still very much like how it always has been. With the creaky floorboards and tons of penny and nickle games. Really it is such a unique thing here in CO.

Manitou is incredible. The houses built into the sides of the mountains. Old Victorian architecture. History coming from all the old timey buildings. It is a place easy to love.

My mom used to get the spring water and use it to make lemonade. It was the only way us kids would drink it. It was pretty good in the lemonade. She used the water that, as you said, tastes like flat seltzer water.

Thank you for this video, my wife and I are already thinking "road trip!". I was told about the Manitou Incline recently, and in searching for more information on the hike, I found this video. Manitou Springs looks like a very interesting place to visit, and I'm seeing other spots to travel to in the thumbnails on the right. Thanks again for all of the information!

You should try the super easy Manitou Incline just a little less than 1 mile...course it's 2000 ft vertical but don't worry from the base you can't see the 68% grade steepness cause of the false summit

It was mid 90s when the Cliff House was for sale the price was pennies on the dollar and I almost bought it. My wife and I used to save the water bottles and go fill them up in Manitou Springs.

Yes! Colorado Springs has the Historic Preservation Alliance that's been around for a while. They have a lot of places downtown and in Old Colorado City on their registry.

Hidden gem of a place, that doesn't get much publicity in the UK. The springs alone are worth a visit for being carbonated, unlike many others.

It's still a very cool place. But in the past years, as all the old hippies that own many of the mom and pop shops there retire, there is a few less each season and you can feel the corporate creep moving in. 😥

You will undoubtedly be climbing it with 25+ strangers! Bring water and then get some more water and then pick up another bottle on your way there.

I’m only doing this to make my self miserable.. I left Colorado today and I really miss it yes I miss all the other places I’ve been.. but this is different maybe bc the snow and cold - which I love so much but idk. Also I went to Manitou, but I was staying in Colorado Springs.

Sadly, there is little free parking in the city anymore.. but the best place to park is Memorial Park.

Fun fact, Manito is the Native word for "the spirit the moves thru all things" or soul, or creator spirits, depending on the tribe/clan, and pronounced man-it-toe. Northern plains, central, etc.. Fyi.

Pretty much anywhere in Colorado is a GREAT town for dogs. It is a very pet friendly state overall.

Yes, the downtown area of Manitou Springs is great for dogs. And many of the restaurants and shops allow dogs into the stores.

It's extremely over priced, locals are being over ran by tourism and not to mention the cost of living has gotten so much more expensive, not worth living here but it's a good vacation spot.

Flew into Denver which homeless run, came to manatoe way less homeless but they still are there and are different than most homeless. Estes park was the best

I almost moved to Manitou but settled on Monument instead. If you like homelessness, hippies, democrats, the smell of weed and people smoking it everywhere, traffic, and theft, you'll love Manitou Springs.
