Brings back some great memories. Ran a few different 4600’s back in the late 70’s early 80’s it was considered the Cadillac of draglines. Nothing like them with the inter lock system.

I was the Operator for a US Navy owned 4600 it was in Rota Spain. Engines were 12v71 and 6-110. The main counter weigh could not be seen from outside it was behind the visible rear weight. It was a box filled with solid Lead. It took two super 20 pettybone forklifts, a 40 ton PB had crane and a TD-20 dozer to lift and push it into place. The box was built of 2inch plate. I used Ivory soap bars to lube the slides. ChiefD

Cool Don. I’m pretty much in the same boat, just on the good old Lima units. Began in 79 and actually still in the coal industry today. I sure miss the dragline years, still My favorite piece of equipment to operate though almost nonexistent here in NW Pa. for quite some time.

One of these rests in peace under 500 feet of water in Lake Ontario, since it fell off of a barge in a storm in 1981. Thanks for the great tour of this amazing machine!

I have Only ran One (1) of these, It was an Old one that looked Just like this. I only ran it’ a week, when the guy was out sick, and My machine was Down for MX. It’s funny you mention them at 16:15 but yes, I mostly ran the LIMA 2400’s in Both the Three (3) drum Clamshells, diesel & electric unloading barges, and the A & B models of Draglines with 7 - 8 yard buckets both loading barges and making piles with them... 👍😎

This video is great. I am searching for pics or video of the 4600 as a loading or hi front stripping shovel. If anyone has anything about it as a shovel please let me know. I can't build a model without seeing some more angles of the point, and boom butt areas

I believe the Lima 2400 was equipped with a V-8 Cat D378 as standard. The optional D379 mentioned would have been a V-12. From what I heard and read, the 2400s were a little slower, but more reliable than the 4600s. These machines probably hit the limits in size, proportion, and properties of materials available for fiction operation to be feasible. When you see a machine equipped with lighting, you say "no thank you" unless it pays very well or you are in dire need of a job.
@PAmining
@PAmining 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'd say the 2400 was more reliable but it was a heavier machine. And yes, a 4600 is a much faster machine than a 2400. This is primarily due to the VICON control system. The operator can control the engine throttle from the hoist and drag hand levers, thus making the machine go faster or slower. On a 2400, the engine runs at one speed.

2400's and 4600's have D379's. V12 version is a 397 and V16 version is a D398 IIRC

That's a good question and unfortunately I really don't have an answer. The sale price for a 4600 would have changed quite a bit over time just by how long this model was offered.
