"The Mystery of Public Opinion: Can We Escape Its Subtle Influence?
Please note: the image for the lecture is wrongly titled "The Broken Heart and Offended Pride". We have fixed the thumbnail, but when the video plays, the wrong one comes up. Apologies for this. We are still searching for the audio originally titled: The Broken Heart and Offended Pride.
Mr. Hall warns of the pitfalls that listening to public opinion has on the individual. He calls for each of is to know who we are and center ourselves to that the outside world doesn't have such a negative influence on our growth. The lecture (from July 28, 1957) is 65 years old but is just as true and relevant today.
Hall's reference to "North Africa" was likely about Morocco and Tunisia gaining independence, and even more likely, about the Suez Canal Crisis which occurred just a few months before this lecture.

"Misery and pain, we have bought a semblance of liberty, and now that we have it, we do not use it. We sacrifice voluntarily, the liberty we have earned, cheerfully, upon the altar of collective opinion, and do exactly as we are told to. Liberty seems to be worth dying for, but not living with, and we take this attitude everyday."

I would like to thank all those involved in keeping Manly P. Halls priceless insight, wisdom and genius alive for all to hear, To understand the world in its many different disciplines, as he does, and draw in the attention of the audience with great details of the human experience is very unique. He vocalizes his experiences, wisdom and genius in a very comprehensible way, thus allowing anyone that would apply himself to transform his life in a very positive manner and/or review topics from a different perspective allowing the individual to make the choice. It is amazing to see how after over 70 years of human development the deep problems and ideals of mankind, as a whole, has hardly changed. 95% of the information given by Mr. Hall is applicable today and the other 5% could be generally applied by simply changing a few names and places. Truly a man before his time and a man that truly understood the inner workings of mankind and the primitive nature which has bound him since his creation.

I've been dying to gain public acceptance. Most homeless people in LA I do agree don't deserve this. They traumatized me severely and laughed and made fun of me for trying to kill myself with heroin. I am off the drugs now. Please help me gain public wisdom and acceptance. The cops didn't help, instead they threw all my art in the back of a dumptruck while I was crying hysterically. I had markers, paint, stones, and wire wrap. They threw my tent away and only gave me the poles back. NEVER did they give me any paperwork to get it back. I had a dewalt box full of 500 stones... Gone. I didn't get arrested, they just gave me my clothes, dog food, and poles back and took everything else. This all happened on Lincoln Blvd and Flower Ave.

He spoke and wrote of these things even before WW2 broke out in Europe (1939), and leading up to America's involvement after Dec. 7, 1941. Some lecture titles and dates: 'The Horoscopes of Roosevelt, Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin for 1935" (Sept., 1934) "The Great Germanic League: An analysis of Hitler's program to unite Europe under the Teutonic dispensation." (Sept., 1941) "Total Peace after Total War: How to meet the challenge and demand for a New World" (Sept. 1942) (*transcriptions only, no audio for these lectures)

He was ruthlessly critical of WW2 and the darkness of war in general. I think he has something like 8000 lectures that are documented, but I've definitely heard him shred all that stuff apart in the most eloquent way possible.

Something happened to you recently. The source of divine oneness has touched your soul. You are awakening. You are quickening. You have an understanding, a knowing of your true power. You now stand as a sacred source of your true power. You are the power. This power is changing you. This power is changing your reality. Look around you, you are at the center of a sacred circle of creation. You are now aware of the illusion of the world. You feel more deeply now. You feel the suffering the world has caused. You realize that your actions are significant. You create your reality. You are the power.

But what does wise mean in the light of relativism ? There are many good reasons to do anything, so are good reasons enough to be wise ? Is wisdom how many good reasons we know for opposing and contradicting things ? Is wisdom the inner self but wouldn’t that be a perspective illusion ? I hate the word wisdom if it means anything else then a huge pile of knowledge about morality.
