This voice acting is absurdly high quality for pixel horror. I wonder if any of the seiyuu already are or are considering becoming professional? I didn't recognize them, so I think they're probably just internet talents.

I like how Rin's face remained overshadowed even when you're controlling her just after seeing Yuka. In a lot of RPG maker games characters revert back to their default after a conversation no matter what, people don't exactly go back to smiling once they stop talking after things like these. But nowadays I'm seeing tiny details like this more often and it makes me pretty happy.

God, I miss the era of horror RPGmakers. I need more of this. Thank you, Manly.

As soon as I saw "Mermaid Swamp Remake" I was immediately excited. I loved the original, and this remake seems to be pretty promising so far. cx

I feel nostaglic for the crooked man series. i like the voice acting was hoping for manly senpai's but this was good too. In case you were unaware it's the same maker.

i think the voices match there personality perfectly. i think the new art is very effective.

I'm almost finished playing this remake. Just gotta get the true ending. It was really fun to play this again. The new graphics, images, and sprites were a nice addition. As for the voices? I'd say Seitaro's was the best out of the cast. He delivers his lines well and the voice fits (it kinda sounds like Takahisa Suzuki, so that's a plus.) He was already my fav of the cast, and the voice made me love him all the more. Rin's is the second best. The overall sound and quality she brought is exactly how I see Rin. Although, some scenes she was kinda hit or miss, but as a whole, she did great. Yuka's did well enough. I'm glad she sounds "normal" feminine and not "anime" feminine (actually glad most of the voices aren't too "anime-ish"). Since she doesn't have many speaking lines, it's hard to judge, but her actress did her well enough for what she had to work with. Yuuta's is the weakest imo. The VA sounds kinda "meh" most of the time. Like he wasn't sure what to do with his character. He wasn't terrible or the worst (that would be the old lady's VA), but not the best. Overall, I liked the voice acting. Made playing Mermaid Swamp again really interesting. PS: I still ship SeitaroXRin. lul

i really love how violent Rin is sometimes, like when she threatens to kill the underwater shadow in her dream and then says she’ll peel Seitaro apart (at around 31:34) for saying she’s dumb. it’s really funny, and i’ve never seen any other female horror protagonists act like her (also i kinda ship Rin and Yuka)

Man. no matter the language, if it's a good voice actor you'll always know their emotional state and if they're pissed off / pleased or whatever. This was actually pretty good voice acting.

I loved the old version. Please remember to NOT light the fireplace, because my heart isn't ready for it if it's the same. On a side note, the Ningyo, or Japanese mermaid, is really interesting. All the anime I've seen that have mermaids always take the appearance of the Sirens after their wings were plucked. Wait, that's a poor example. All I had to say was The Little Mermaid. Dummy. Anyway, Ningyo are WEIRD. Originally, they were mostly fish with golden scales, which so happened to have the face of a human (just face, not even the whole head). The human face had an elongated mouth, like that of a monkey. Nothing really to sexualize there. It's only within the last couple of centuries, with the introduction of western fairy tales, that 'legends' of beautiful ningyo appeared. It's always been the case that, if you eat the flesh of a Ningyo, it's supposed to give you longevity, but also misfortune so that you will eventually end your own life. They became even more human when they entered pop culture (like Ponyo and the anime I mentioned earlier), but the longevity is still a thing. I'm saying that because I feel like something's being lost in translation with this game. In western culture, mermaids are fairy tales. Aside from the sirens, every other type of mermaid (nereids, naiads, and selkies) is benevolent. Ningyo, however, are Yokai, or demons. Monsters. They should be ranked more like the Minotaur and Gorgons would be. I think knowing that adds to the horror a little, even though Ningyo aren't particularly benevolent or malevolent. They're basically mutated monster fish with a brain to match, just swimming around and looking for food.

i dont know manly, i like these voice acting, but i have to say, i enjoyed your voice reading the lines to us a lot more from the original.

Rin Yamasaki would be the one who died first if this is normal horror movie. She just sounds like that for me. Voice actors are pretty good, I must say.

It's lookin' pretty good so far. The voice acting definitely helped its glow up (although the original's really good too).

_glub, glub, glub_ Be wary of being a man's mermaid, whether real or just in his mind. I remember this game very well & remember the Mermaid in the Manhole short very well also. That initial description was similar. The voice acting is appreciated, although sometimes the voices are somewhat muffled to me. Except for Rin - she is loud, fitting the character portrayal of her as so much more "blunt" than the others. It's nice to see the new sprites & I look forward to seeing any new puzzles added to the game.

One of my favorite horror RPGmaker games got remade?? :000 I rewatched the old one back in May, this is exciting.

I can't believe there's a remake now! This is sort of special for me to watch you play this because your original playthrough is actually how I discovered you, so that means I've been subscribed for 5 years, wow!

Hmm, Mermaid in a Manhole huh? Googled it but don't have the courage to watch it haha. Is the depiction of mermaids beautiful in its natural environment as well? Actually, mermaids in Japanese mythology are a bad omen and I think they weren't all that pretty in the first place? More like monkeys with fishy features. The way the mermaids are spoken about in here reminds me of Selkies from Celtic Mythologies, Selkies are seal inside the water, but turn into humans once they take off their skin on the seashore, there are various tales of humans being enamoured with them and taking their skin and keeping it locked away from them, binding them to the land and to them. Except they don't really turn ugly, they often times get families with their captors and though their relationship can be positive and loving, the moment they find their skin back they return whence they came from. Then again I suppose mermaids being taken and kept by humans is a pretty common theme in Western mythology.

Man, Rins VA is exactly how i pictured her in the og game. What a throwback this is.

Well, this works out well for me. I've never seen or played the original version so this remake is an entirely fresh experience. So far I'm enjoying this though I can tell this was before the Strange Men series. It's not bad by any means, but some dialogue does feel a touch off, like the one random scene about Rin's cup size. The VA work is pretty good, especially for a RPG Maker game. Rin's voice actress in particular is doing a good job giving her that blunt, direct tone.

The voice acting and translation are brilliant. I don't speak Japanese, I've only watched some subbed anime and here they get the tone and writing right for the spirit of the honorifics I recognize

Mermaid Swamp was my first Manly let’s play!

The mansion feels kinda downsized I remember the rooms to be a bit bigger in the old one but the VA is great!

Mermaid Swamp is my favourite out of Uri's game, so I'm pretty excited to see what else they'll expand on in this remake. So far it seems like they made Seitaro even more of a prick, and I kind of have to raise my eyebrow at the developer's decision to make Rin a history major. I guess they wanted to give her a little more intelligence than she did back in the original game, and maybe this will also expand on the big reveal or history of the setting.

Wow i never expected to see a remake. this seems pretty great. Theres voice acting which shows more of the characters personality and cgs plus the sprites were remade and the rooms were slightly changed.

The japanese va's are fucking excellent as well, which i wasn't expecting i do wish some more like extra stuff had been added, not necessarily to the main game, it's really cool to compare the difference between the original and this

This game reminds me of Mermaid Forrest or Mermaid Saga, which is an anime about the journey of an immortal man who consumed mermaid flesh. Its pretty creepy.
