i feel like this game is PERFECT for manly because for once, he and the main character seem to share this jaded resignment to fate and are content to just calmly do their laundry and hide in trash cans

The idea of someone insisting they should still do laundry while they have a surreal house guest is genuinely hilarious- like yeah this thing wants to kill me but I’ll be damned if I don’t take this trash out

I feel like it's inspired by the story of that one Japanese dude who had an homeless lady living in his closet and didn't know it. She would sneak out of his closet while he wasn't home to use his shower and other things but never even once has she stolen any money or precious objects from him. She just needed a place to stay warm in.

I'm going to take a guess at an interpretation. It's a hikikomori. His mom is always after him. His brother is away (at college) for a long time. He had fond memories of his brother, but after his brother returned his "dark side" won and his brother started to be hard on him too. His little sister is benign, just telling him what to do, and his dad is the rarely seen giant outside, occasionally peaking in the window. You can either leave at which point you become the monsters from before because you also become "normal" like them, or you go down the hatch which I consider to be a suicide allegory.

True fear is having way too many places to hide. If you have only a few, you know you probably only have to worry a little bit about hiding. If you have this many, you know you're never safe

I loved this because we got another stealth game of Manly mastering the AI's mechanics and knowing how to use it in his favor. That's always fun to see and leads to many genuinely funny moments.

Even though the intruder really isnt that scary, knowing it's right on your heels is still terrifying to me. That intensity scares the hell out of me. It's why the original Outlast is taking me so long to complete and why watching John Wolfe play Phobia is nearly too much. I can't sympathize with a protagonist who does his laundry in the midst of a home invasion.

Honestly, while the models have a funny look to them to AI seems really good - sure it gets caught some places but it's hard to shake when it's found you

This game is deceptively good. Like, it looks like some cheap thoughtless 5 minute unity game, but has some cool scares and really spooky atmosphere

The one thing that got me about this game is the speed in which the crazy lady moves through the house. It's super quick, fast enough that it breaks the narrative. If you're trespassing in someone else's home, conventional logic says you'd slowly make your way around, while monitoring anything suspicious. I can see, say if the lady runs into the player, (or vice versa) her pursuing the player quickly and violently. But she's making her way around the place, fearlessly and quickly, like she's been there for 25 years.

The gigantic infantile looking "father"? being revealed to have followed you in the house as you see him watching you shut the bedroom door behind you genuinely startled me. Because the chase music disappeared combined with the relative silence and urgency Manly was moving, I had my guard down and it really got me hard for some reason. That was a really unnerving end to that set-piece.

I don't know why, but the fact they're wearing pajamas disturbs me

The Hatch, (I assume) is a bunker that leads to the last remaining survivor(s) in the house as this takes place at the beginning of the apocalypses because at the start of the diary said: "There are some strange people outside my house", "why is it night all the time", as well as the lack of power around the house, and the very strange delivery person. The 'dark ghost' is some kind of entity that is commanding the doublegangers into doing these actions as it never attacked the player but more like help them where to go. Why would the original person be banging their head is what I can imagine a transmission coming from the TV that leaves them vulnerable just like the bad side Aniki except they learn to combat the transmission to disengage the original into a false sense before killing them however if left unintended could possibly leave them crazy such as the delivery person and the giant man because they didn't have the black outline around their eyes. The package could also be the aliens infiltrating in the house as to how that works...idk.
