Manmade climate change is turning the world green. Literally. Bad news for fertilizer stocks.

Investors piled in to stocks like Bunge (BG), CF Industries (CF), Mosaic (MOS), Nutrien (NTR, formerly Agrium and Potash Corp), and Intrepid Potash (IPI), along with John Deere (DE) on a powerful idea: with soaring global populations and billions of new mouths to feed, our ag industries would struggle to keep up. To whatever extent we could ramp up crop production, it would be largely owed to our chemical and manufacturing industries, who would produce the fertilizers and farm equipment so desperately needed to feed a hungry world.
But investors have been disappointed, as large gains in these sectors have not been realized. Crop yields are at record highs, along with global farm output. Food prices are falling globally, except in North America and Europe where decades of central bank policy failures and fiscal mismanagement have resulted in high inflation.
How were our farms able to produce food supplies that were not merely sufficient, but in abundance and surplus?
Since 1980, the Earth has been turning green. The greening trend accelerated after 2000. Much of this greening has come from manmade activities, such as burning fossil fuels that result in high concentrations of atmospheric CO2.
A great deal this greening too, is due to industrial-scale policy changes in China and India. China pushed for high re-forestation, along with more efficient and larger farms. India also transformed much of its land mass into highly productive farms.
Climate scientists expect these greening trends to continue through the end of this century. The human population will peak far earlier than that, then begin to decline. With the crises fading away, is there a bull case to be made for these names, now?

I don't think Kevin and most others understand that 'greening' is not necessarily a good thing. . It all starts with an assumption that green is good according to environmentalists. The scientifically illiterate don't know it, but the majority of environmentalists barely understand the science if at all. Why? Because learning this material takes work and if you are not genuinely curious you are not going to spend thousands of hours over decades following the research (earth sciences, physics, chemistry). . When you read/cherry pick one bit of info then stop and go online with your own unscientific ideas you make yourself look the fool. 5 minutes on Google would have shown the truth of global greening, via CO2 fertilization. .. *Rising carbon dioxide levels are turning rice and fish into junk food* . More carbon dioxide means less goodness from the crops we grow on land and the fish we harvest from the oceans. . Increased CO2 in the atmosphere reduces the nutritional value of rice, the world's most plentiful and valuable crop, as well as wheat and many wild plants. But CO2 also has a negative impact on the nutrition we take from the oceans, and that starts at the base of the food web with the harm it does to the microscopic phytoplankton. . www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks/june-9-2018-rising-co2-levels-make-food-less-nutritious-neonics-and-bees-tricking-facial-recognition-1.4696119/rising-carbon-dioxide-levels-are-turning-rice-and-fish-into-junk-food-1.4696123 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Rising carbon dioxide is greening the Earth - but it’s not all good news* . The research, published yesterday in Nature Climate Change, outlines a counterintuitive side effect of climate change: As higher temperatures drive plants and trees into areas now inhospitable to them, their new distribution speeds up temperature rise via natural processes such as releases of heat-trapping water vapor into the air. . Previously, scientists understood that global warming would further "green" the Arctic but had less understanding of the degree and how these shifts would interact with the climate itself. . www.scientificamerican.com/article/vegetation-may-speed-warming-of-arctic/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First it was the Christian nonsense and now he proves his ignorance on climate change. . This is what happen when an expert at one thing (business) thinks he can play expert at everything. . How long did it take to earn an MBA? Half the time in higher Ed than it takes to earn a PHd in earth sciences, yet he thinks he knows what he is talking about. What really happens is people see how wrong he is about climate change then speculate that maybe he cheated to get his MBA because he don't sound too smart. Also, I don't see any cheap groceries where I live. The Haber Bauch process and 1960-70's 'Green Revolution' are what is keeping y'all alive and they are cutting down forests to grow more crops, like the Amazon rain forest (1 earth lung) to grow mega amounts of soy to feed Chinese pigs. Also decimating massively complex forest eco systems so humans can have more palm oil Indonesia et al. None of this is good news. Climate change consequences are only going to increase and they will send shock waves through civilization. As little as a 5% reduction in grain crop yields will start the speculation and panic. He also forgot to mention that they need more and more fertilizers and insecticides to keep industrial Ag alive. All the links in the description are business & industry - no science, just the latest quarterly results - how else would you expect an American business man to view the world? No science is no surprise. Y'all only know about global greening because scientists told you. Some of the very same scientists deniers constantly attack and make death threats to. Deniers love to pick them cherries. Has any one noticed what a global warming Jacked cat 1 hurricane did to N America from Houston to Atlantic Canada? That's what a climate jacked cat 1 looks like. .... *Deadly Hurricane Beryl Supercharged by Climate Change, Experts Say* . "Beryl has alarmed environmental scientists for how early in the year it appeared, with most major storms only forming closer to September. And as The Guardian reports, that's almost certainly due to climate change supercharging Atlantic ocean temperatures. . "Beryl would be astounding to happen anyway, but for it to form in June is completely unprecedented," University of Miami climate scientist Brian McNoldy told the newspaper. "It’s just remarkable to see sea temperatures this warm." . "I don’t think anyone would expect an outlier like this to happen, it exceeded expectations," he added. "With a climate-change-influenced ocean, we are making extreme storms like this more likely to happen." Hot Tub Clime Machine . This year follows an already worrying trend, with 2023 also seeing off-the-charts and record-breaking ocean temperatures, and 2024 looking similar. In June alone, the North Atlantic has seen temperatures of two to five degrees Fahrenheit warmer than average. . China has been working on a green energy transition for several years. As China continues to strengthen its dominance of the green energy industry chain. Eventually these green energy products will have to come down considerably in price. Sweeping global markets. Nice summary. We had before 5-6000 particles of CO2 in a million. Plants and animals tied it down. We were near extinction level when we started burning coal. We were down at 280 ! Can you imagine that ?! 150 is death For plants abundance needed 800, as they find out in tent experiments. People employ CO2 generators in large tent productions. We managed in 150 years, raise the level by 120. How long would it take an another 400? There is more to it. The water evaporation would remain the same. For raising CO2 levels are calling for less openings on the leafs, reducing accidental evaporations Water vapor is responsible for green house effect by 98% + factor. One tree in the Amazonas, by reaching adulthood, evaporates 3-4 Olympic size of swimming pool water and there are many times more trees than stars in the Milky Way. It has about 100 billion stars

A more recent shift in agriculture paradigm is responsible for more food less fertiliser phenomenon. It is the set of microbes in the soil that enable the plant to absorb the nutrients that is the fertiliser or carbon dioxide. If you plant something in a totally sterilised soil, no amount of fertiliser can grow that thing. This finding became mainstream as recent as 20 years ago, but farmers are only now adopting this paradigm. Wallstreet analyst are too thick to even care of "dirty stinky soil". Two notable locations has a rich set of microbes in their soil. Ukraine and the Amazon. The German scientists had already discovered the role of microbes in agriculture during Nazi era, and unsurpringly, Ukraine, Argentina and Brazil were their goto place when the Nazi lost the war. Anyone find it weird the "progressive" west are aiding Nazi Ukraine today?

Convoluted argument used by a closet climate changer denier! a) Greening of earth is largely due to increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This also does not equate to increase food production. b) Although there are efforts to re-forest some lands, by China and others, this does not stop heating up of Earth and increase food production. If you review food production of India and its use of fertilizer in the past few decades, you get the picture. c) Overall world production has increase due to increase land used for agriculture, and change of technology. Whether this can last remain to be seen. Only good thing is that this video shows that speculating in stocks has nothing to do with reality. It only serve to transfer money from the poor to the rich.
