La Guagua 47’s Celebration of Latinx Artists honors five exceptional Latinx artists from the Philadelphia region for their talent, artistic achievements and community contributions.

About: With a prolific career in visionary art-making through redefining the status quo, Pedro Ospina is a Colombian born artist educator and innovator. With deep-rooted regard for what it means to be indigenous in the Americas today, much of his odyssey from Bogota to New York and Philadelphia has focused on communal unions with objects and places. He received his BFA from SUNY Purchase NY in Printmaking. In 1995 Pedro received the Philip Morris Graduate Studies Fellowship and attended the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hoffberger School of Painting, earning his MFA. Hired to teach at The American School of Sao Paulo, Brazil he then Co-founded Casa de Cultura, Santa Tereza, Brazil, then Semilla Arts Initiative, Philadelphia. In 2010, he initiated “SHELTER” a physical home in which he now resides built using art and recycled materials. Presently he is the Founder/ Director of the living art project The Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden in North Philadephia, a place-based work of art that engages community members and artists in arts and culture events and experiences.
