I love it when you go to the beach with uncertainties and you are delivered a solid session! our wing crew was representing (8-10 of us out there) and we were all frothing at the conditions, the waves ended up being way more fun that anticipated! we are all getting better and it's so much fun to be around other wingers ripping! this sesh I use the v4 Cabrinha Mantis for the first time (HUGE thanks to Cabrinha and kitesite.net for hooking up the demo), and then switched to the v3 Mantis. it was cool to try them back-to-back, and I have my fingers crossed for a few more sessions so I can do a thorough review. I love the Mantis! it's behaves the way I want a wing to behave, and it's characteristics suit my riding style.
please note that I feel like the small pinhole bladder leak was a freak occurrence and I'm not sure how it happened. it had nothing to do with the construction of the wing, these are totally solid. weird things happen, and weirder things happen to me. I seem to be a magnet for this sort of thing. easy repair, I've already ridden it again. please stay tuned for more on these wings... stoked on the Mantis!
gear ridden wing sesh:
5m Cabrinha Mantis (blue = v4 2024, red = v3 2023)
75L Armstrong v1 FG board
HA880 foil
795 HM mast, 10 in track
60 fuse
140 dart stab (blue & red shim)
Kaohi double coil grip leash & padded belt

I’m jealous again that you have the wind to take out a 5m wing. I also can relate to weird things happening to gear thinking it only happens to me. I bought an 8m Duotone Ventis last winter, partly because of the exposure to Ventis on your channel and partly because I know we have plenty of near windless days where a huge wing will be the only chance of getting up on foil. On my third inflation of that wing it hissed at me. One of the valve fittings on the leading edge bladder was separating from the bladder. MacKite and Duotone were great to work with and they got me a replacement bladder quickly. I’m only 5’10” and that wing is a beast but I’ve been able to ride two days in a row now where the max wind was between 6 ~ 8 mph. Again, that wing is a beast and will get a lot of use this summer. A royal pain in the rearend until liftoff and then it is wonderful. Way better than sitting on the beach wishing Mother Nature would stop teasing me. Ride on Jeremy.

oh man I have the worst luck. my v3 Mantis I destroyed a year ago on it's first session, and then I bought it a year later and on the first sesh the trailing edge ripped off the strut mid-sesh. same wing, second session (1 year apart). pretty funny. at least the bladder repair wasn't that bad. Stoked yr stoked on the Ventis! I still ahve mine but I'm considering selling it cause I can make the 5m sizes work now with the dw board and new HA foils in close to the same winds. 6-8mph I'm not sure if I've done that... but now that I'm kinda into paddling more, that's a paddle day for me. soooo much to learn there! well, I hope you get some more wind soon bud! sending windy vibes and wishing you an awesome rest of your weekend!

I totally agree! the v4s are so similar and slightly better in a few ways but in general I think the v3s are amazing. I'm proud to have mine! I'm thinking about getting a 3 or 3.5m to fill out tha part of my quiver. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!

yeeew awesome film buddy loved all you wing Marras ripping it up must have been a weekend with so many out . The Mantis is a fun wing and priced more competitively in uk than Gong at the moment . I think the Mantis strike and Takoons and Gong Neutra they all fell like they share some DNA all great wings for the wave for sure , I look forward to you thoughts on the vision. hope you are keeping well and staying stoked .(ps the new v5 Neutra , wow my god its good )

Chris! what's up bud?!? it was a great day, actually a Monday, but I think it was a holiday. I'd love to try that Neutra... I just looked it up and it def speaks to me. I think I saw someone on one of those recently around here so maybe I can try it. I'm really getting dialed as to what my preferences are: great drift, good power, decent performance. so anything that checks those boxes makes me pretty happy! I hope all is weel bud. lets catch up soon. I wish you and yr crew and awesome rest of your weekend!

I have been riding the v1 and v2 since they came out. Love them, great grunt, I am usually on a size smaller than everyone else. The highend isn’t the greatest, but I don’t mind going down a size. I have a 3, 4, and 6. The 6 is a bit clunky and I have to work it around in really light wind. My 4 is the work horse I use it all the time from 13 to 20 knots, then on either side I go to 3 or 6. I have so many hours on that 4 which is a v1 it is crazy!

awesome to read this, thanks! I'd say my favorite part of these in general, both the v3s and v4s, are the handles. right now they are my favorite hard handles out there. and I've only ridden the 5m sizes and they are really nice... the can feel a little heavy in the light days but I can leverage them around with my forearm pretty good one-handed and I'm kinda getting used to that. I def could upgrade to a v4 this year, but they are very similar to the v3s. def recommend an upgrade if you can grab even a v3 cheap. I'd love to try a smaller size... I could use a new 3 or 3.5 so I may consider one of those... thanks for the comment, and I wish you an awesome rest of your day!

I have a 7.0 V2 that is super sloppy due to the handles and windows. I also have a bunch of smaller V2s and those are all good. So glad they improved the handles. Thanks for the review!

Hi Jeremy, Great channel, your content and vibe is immaculate. I'm looking for some help on equipment. I'm 160lbs and have a 36L prone board, 88l wing board and a 135l DW board. So far I have a Armstong 72 mast and a 85 mast, a 60 and 70 fuse and have been running the older HS1250 and CF300. I can gybe and I'm mostly in bay chop 15-30knts in NJ. I'm wanting to get myself a new wing setup and a DW setup. This is what I'm thinking -- Prone, stick with the slower HS1250 and CF300. Wing I'm thinking HA880 and SURF205 on 72mast/60fuse and DW I'm thinking HA1180 (1080??) on 70fuse and 180(140??) I haven't got into DW yet (thank you for setting expectations haha) appreciate you man, keep up those vibes!

sup bud! sorry for the delay on responding to you... it's been a week! so sounds like you are going for a big upgrade! exciting!! sounds like you are fine with the prone setup, but I bet that 880 will be great for prone, as will the 205 surf tail. the 180 and 140 are great with the HAs... so you may want to consider the 140 cause that would be a decent difference compared to the 205. for winging, and your weight, consider the 780 cause that is an excellent size. at your weight even the 680 would be sick. for prone and winging. they have more lift than you think. I prefer both the 680 and 880 in my quiver, for very different reasons. trust me, I want to be on that 680 as much as possible, but I have no hesitations grabbing the 880 on a small or light day, cause it's glide and pumping makes connecting bump to bump so easy. but the 780 is right in the middle and if you only get one, that's a great one to get. you are lighter than I am by 10 pounds FYI. I'm loving the 1180 for surfing so far, I've yet to do a dw run with it but it should be decent. my plan is to use it for that. you are a little lighter, so that's a plus. I need waves to get it up to foil, I haven't been able to get that up to foil on the flat yet. the 1675 is annoying for me cause it's so big, but it's ability to stay up in light wind bumps is pretty crazy. I've ordered the new 1350, which should bridge those two, I'm excited to have that one. So if you are getting into DW, the 1675 is def going to be the easiest. but you can wing with the 1180 on light days and surf with it too so I get the appeal. I love the 1180, just saying it could be hard to dw with it at first. both the 1180 and 1675 are great with the 140, and the 220 too. I think I'm preferring the 140 right now with the bigger ones, like the pump cadence on the 1675 with the 140 makes it a little easier, but the 220 glides better. and I do love that surf tail, it makes me a more solid rider and I'll ride it on crazy days with big swell when I don't wanna fall a lot, but in general I'm using the 140 and 180 for pretty much everything these days. ok hope that helped... volley back any other questions if you have them and I wish you an awesome day!!!

@@OCEANBOUND1 Thank you so much man, I really appreciate the advice. So I got a little lucky with the timing and found a HA780 and a surf 205 on marketplace, STOKED. So I'm covered on prone/wing. Now for the DW board, if I'm going to be messing around in the small waves with a paddle, hopefully connecting one or two of them and light wind days - Should I go 1180 or do you think I should try the APF?? and what would you pair that with, 140 or 180? Ive already got the 205. Thank again, we had fantastic wind down this side all weekend, the boys were sending it! cheers!!
