He's a very cool guy who just did his thing when he was young. I think he moved on and grew up and I don't think he has understood the influence he had. He never made a bad record. His best drum sequence though was without doubt Cold Gettin Dumb. Timeless

I was 15yrs in 85 when I heard Get stupid fresh it changed my life forever. Ever beat I hear then and today has to be hard as Mantronix s beats, Simply not to much basic beats don't movie me like it does a lot of other people. Kurtis Mantronic with absolutely no disrespect to Dre, Timberland, Dupree, and other great producers of my Generation will never be the GOAT of the beats.

Nino Idk either but if the current and the generations following live ling enough maybe. To me with no disrespect to any of todays producers 80s,and 90s hip hop had a little bit more creativity to it from what was being said in the rap to the iconic, complex beats. As a producer I find the hip hop of today is so simplistic to make, with these drag and drop just add water beats 80s and 90s producers had to create their their own music from scratch with the exception of samples it all wasn't just add water production you had to be a musician or just have God given talent to produce iconic hip hop music. May God bless all generations coming up to live to remember their youthful years in hip hop.

@ninomalomusic

I think because he existed a little 'outside' the scene. Other than T La Rock, Just-Ice and his Mantronix work, he wasn't as 'integrated' as the big producers of the time who worked with a bigger range of Hip Hop artists - Marley Marl is the easiest example i guess. Add to that a kind of 'left field' approach and a relatively short career in Hip Hop and it's kind of understandable - if really sad. That said, countless producers refer to his work and influence so I thnk his greatest recognition comes in the sounds that followed and still exist today.

@@ninomalomusicgreat points. Mantronix and ultra magnetic mcs are in a similar boat. Fresh is the word came out in 1985, ego trippin came out in 1986...both records were fire. But hip hop was shifting away from the Latin rascals and mantronix editing style of production. I always thought mantronix should have followed the Latin rascals and become a Latin freestyle producer, his beats on nocera's summertime is a classic. But he did produce just-ice before fading from the ny hip hop scene. As for ultra magnetic, Kool Keith rhyming style was considered way to abstract and weird so after critical breakdown they faded from the ny scene too. Both mantronix and ultra magnetic were outside the box when it came to the core ny hip hop.
@ninomalomusic
@ninomalomusic 9 ай бұрын
@@mymusic8414 interesting comparison. Ultra had a longer run but a similar number of Albums to Mantronix in its orginal form. I loved that Latin Hip Hop style but it's appeal outside of NY was limited. Maybe by makingstuff like "Got to have your love" and the house tracks later were a way to break beyond a 'strictly' Hip Hop audience. Ced Gee is a hugely under rated producer and again someome predominantly associated with one group (+earlyBDP!) rather than producing multiple artists like say Premier, RZA etc. . I think there's a clear line between a producers ability to work with multiple artists and their longevity/recognition.

Other than for Dr Dre of course you're right. Dre's stuff with WCWC would have been around the same time as the first Mantronix stuff was about - 1985 -so I think it's reasonable to consider them as contemporaries. That said, for me at least, Dre came into his own as a producer with NWA and even then you could argue that he didnt hit his real "sound" until Chronic where as Mantronix came out the gate with something very different - Mantronik's influence on music way beyond Hip Hop is without doubt...

@@ninomalomusic Interesting you mention Dre as that rhyme flow at 1:32 instantly reminded me of Eazy E, he probably got it from Ice T's '6 in the morning' but that dropped 2 years later than the Mantronix 'Hardcore Hip Hop' joint, the only other thing in '85 I can think of with that cadance was Schoolly D's 'Gucci Time'
@ninomalomusic
@ninomalomusic 8 ай бұрын
@@npc3po301 That's a intersting call. I also thought MC Tee kinda often took on a similar flow to Dougie Fresh and Slick Rick (and to an extent Dana Dane).That kinda singy song kinda slow flow - i guess its the jamaican roots. But he was much more inclined to then get more stacatto and faster flow. He was a favourite but his later crimes unfortunately mean I can't listen as 'easily'... there's a reason he isn't discussed in the show at all.
