Moulding Tools :
1. Shovel:
The shovel is used for mixing and tempering moulding sand. It is also used for transferring moulding sand into a moulding box
2. Riddle:
It is also called a Screen. It has a circular or square wooden frame. It has wire mesh at the bottom. It is used to clean the moulding sand, by removing unwanted materials like nails, metal chips, stones.
3. Rammer:
It is used to ram or pack moulding sand in the moulding box. It is made of wood or iron. It has a butt end and a peen end.
4. Trowel:
It has a rectangular metal blade fitted with a wooden handle. Its end maybe a round or square shape. It is used to smoothen the mould surface. It is also used for repairing damaged portions of the mould.
5. Slick:
It has a spoon on one end and flat on the other end. Slick is used for repairing and finishing corners of the mould.
6. Lifter:
The lifter is a long steel plate tool with a bent end. It is used to repair & finish surfaces of deep narrow opening of the mould. It is also used to lift out loose sand from mould.
7. Bellows :
Bellows are used for blowing off loose sand from the mould.
8. Strike off bar :
It is a metal or wood piece with having a straight edge. It is used for removing excess sand from a mould after ramming. This gives a level surface to mould.
9. Sprue pin :
Sprue pin is a tapered wooden piece. It is used for making holes for runner and riser in the cope mould. Molten metal is poured through this sprue hole.
10. Gate Cutter:
It is a small steel plate with a bent end. This is used for cutting gates in the mould.
11. Swab:
It is a small brush. The swab is used for applying a small amount of water around the pattern. This makes it easy to take out the pattern from the mould. The swab is also used for giving coating on the mould surface.
12. Mallet :
It is a small wooden hammer. It is to fix the draw spike into a wooden pattern. This is done by slightly hammering.
13. Draw a spike or screw This is a steel rod with a pointed end or threaded end. Another end has a ring shape head. Draw spike is driven into the pattern. Then the pattern is taken out from mould
14. Vent rod :
It is a thin long steel wire with a handle. It is used for making vent holes on the mould. When molten metal is poured into mould, steam & gases are produced. They will escape out through vent holes.
15. Moulding Box :
A moulding box is also called a moulding flask. It is used for making sand moulds. It is a frame or box made of wood or metal.
