Many Columbia University faculty members ‘furious’ over arrest of student protesters

These are the scenes at Columbia University, where students are camping out despite dozens of arrests on Monday.
Students from Massachusetts to California are calling for Universities to cut ties with US companies that profit from the war.
Al Jazeera’s Kristen Saloomey is monitoring the latest developments outside Columbia University.
A lecturer at Columbia University, Professor Bassam Khawaja, says a number of faculty members are “really furious” over the arrest of more than 100 pro-Palestine protesters who gathered at the school’s campus in New York City.
Khawaja said that when the university president made the decision to call the police onto campus, despite the university senate’s objection, many faculty members were “furious”.
“One hundred of us came to and stood on the steps to protest this decision, [and] 54 members of the law school’s permanent faculty wrote to the president objecting to it,” he told Al Jazeera.
“So, there’s quite a bit of anger among the faculty,” he said.
“Anti-Semitism has no place on our campus … we need to be clear that advocating for Palestinian rights is not itself anti-Semitic,” he added.

I really support the actions of students who support Palestine in America. Students as scientific people must stand in the midst of conflict against human rights violations that occur in Palestine and other human rights violations in other parts of the world for the sake of brotherhood and democracy. Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was brotherhood and mutual respect between fellow human beings throughout the world...? If we can do this, the earth will be peaceful and happy. All religions teach love and brotherhood, let's protect it in order to maintain the quality of democracy and the sustainability of the human species and the sustainability of civilized development so that we can pass this earth on to our future children and grandchildren.

If they want to divest from Isreal on humanitarian ground then they should divest from all nation that has criminalized LGBTQ human rights, rights to change or renounce once faith without facing death. Divest should include authoritarian Qatar Saudi pretty much any country that has such religious laws. For progressives human rights of gay Arab must be no different than that of a Palestinian, justice for LGBTQ community should be no different than a Palestinian. If u don’t want to be hypocrites that use this opportunity for both cause.
