⁠⁠@@dolce.luna08 Basically, the male lead tricks the villain into thinking he only poisoned one of the two cups of alcohol, when in reality, he poisoned both. He built immunity to the poison. Edit: highly recommended watching the movie. Very funny, witty, and a bit cheesy.

As of he had a choice. He was told he'd only be away for weeks but was tricked on being away for years. And only if Maomao's mother told Lakan that she plans to get pregnant with him and not do it sneakily, they could have planned it well.

The cruelty of this society is unimaginable, the show does a really good job at slowly unraveling all the beauty and elegance from it. I mean you are sort of led to believe that Maomao's father is some piece of shit, but in reality he's among one of many victims of how intolerant their culture is. And the ripples of his own families cruelty cause nothing but tragedy for him and those around him. No matter how pretty you try to dress it up, a culture here people are treated as objects is a horrible, ugly thing.

@@fatedblades8282 I can't consider "different culture" something so stupid and inferior Many people (even now) justify what happens to women in some countries (like eastern and african countries like Iran or Congo) as "different culture": that is wrong. "Different culture" is italian kissing each others cheeks when meeting, not iranian treating without dignity another human being just because that human being has a vagina, that isn't "different culture" that is being mentally and ethically inferior. Those eastern and african countries are inferior to western countries, that is a fact. Ancient China's way of doing wasn't "different culture", it was "being inferior"...but every ancient country is inferior to our, so we can't really blame any of them...those were different times after all, that's what it means to evolve

To be fair, alcohol can be considered poison, just not the immediate lethal one. That's why there is something called "alcohol poisoning".

Hard to say which anime character what could be seen as a "Zero Tolerence" for alcohol. It does seem like a fun trope to see unfold, but definitely one I haven't seen in a while (although the best I can think of is Yor from Spy X Family and the one filler captain from Bleach).

I'd like to think of this show as being more historically accurate than most American history books. The type that totally gloss over the fact that the world has always been the type of place where seedy stuff happens all the time. In Maomao's case, she's extremely lucky Luomen watched over her and raised her. The reality of most ladies of pleasure the world over, I'd expect to be closer to what happened to Maomaos mom to be the truth. After all, these women were sold as commodities and only a handful reached elite status. Also, until the advent of antibiotics, there WAS no cure for syphillis, and medieval methods of birth control were not really effective but mostly just super dangerous. Thats saying nothing of other STDs...

they might say it next week...that she met her father when she was a toddler and would often visit and kidnap her sometimes. It was shown in the anime that maomao dreaded going to military offices because she knows her father was there.

Not to spoil it, but due to circumstances, he wasn't around for her early years. This was very much not a good thing for Maomao or her mom. She knows that very much and has never forgiven him for it.
