Thank you for your honesty. I used to play a similar Throne at my Church (mine was all black) and I had the exact same issue. Everything on the Throne was great, strong and sturdy but then after a while I started to realise that I could rock side-to-side in any direction and just wobble all over the place whilst playing. Mapex are still a fantastic company- but I do hope they will improve this.

Thank you for the very candid review. I have a Tama first chair throne and it has a similar problem. I was able to rectify it by placing a small chair pad on the post which has helped. The problem stemmed from some shoddy welding in the seat bracket which goes over the post. It left jagged edges and would not sit flush. I handle it with extreme care. I paid $200 CDN for it. I expected better!!

Thanks for your review. I just bought this throne today. It now comes with a wrap around clamp that works perfectly. There no longer is a raiseable collar for leg angle adjustment but it was unnecessary anyway. This is an amazingly solid chair. The four leg brace is heavy and clamps well. Feet are hard rubber and BIG. Backrest is great . I lowered it and put a wedge of wood behind the rest to keep it perfectly vertical. Not sure if it is effective for drummers and other musicians but for classical guitar it fits well at my lower lumbar. Thank you to the gentleman that reviewed this chair, and a huge thank you to Mapex for addressing the issues presented.

I would suggest that anyone with the old clamping system call Mapex to see if there is a modification kit.

Thanks for the honest review and lucky me that I checked before buying one. I still have no idea how a reputable brand would put out a higher tier throne with such a critical flaw, you'd think that they would at least check that the thing doesn't wobble.

I really liked your review, because it went threw the good points, then reviled the problem which I have with my throne, which is invaluable to me on my next purchase. this is the old design which mapex had so many complaints about. thankfully they fixed this issue and now the seat locking mechanism has two joint points that keeps the seat in place.

For my bass drum saddles, I always used a paper towel before I push the post into the base. It's always fixed the wobble. Old teacher taught me that years and years ago.

The part that the throne sits on at 3:03 attaches with a drum key. Make sure it is all the way up on the tube. Mine was tight but not all the way up on the tube. This fixed a slight wobble on mine. I suspect his is doing the same thing. Its not fully seated onto the bottom fitting.

I bought this throne, luckily it was on offer down to £70. It has this same issue will just keep it for teaching on for now. Will invest in a better throne for gigging or perhaps drill and thread another hole to fix the issue.

You absolutely nailed this review! I have the same stool and this very problem makes me hate it haha. It actually affects my playing, because you feel unbalanced! Very frustrating when it’s pretty much the same price as a roc n soc. Just out of curiosity, what stool did you find to replace this ?!

Hey Rhys, thanks for saying so. Believe it or not i still haven't replaced it, but it will be replaced this year. Don't know yet, my be roc soc but it will not be a bicycle seat

I wondered a sheet of maybe plastic put between the two moving parts to act like a washer might help? It shouldn't need to be done but it may help, good video, thanks jv

I have a similar throne, the T775, and I don't have this issue. I think I know what the problem with this one might be. The top piece is two sections, the lower cast bracket that clamps onto the bar, and the top piece that's screwed to the saddle that rests on that. I have a feeling that in this video that bottom bracket is too low. This means that the actual bar is touching the bottom of the seat, so the seat is resting on that instead of the bottom bracket piece. Try raising the bottom bracket piece slightly with a drum key, then placing the saddle back on top so the weight of it is resting on that bottom piece. It should be a lot more stable.

@@Sony4UW I didn't unfortunately. So I sold the throne (I did show the buyer the wobble, but they didn't seem bothered!)...and then I bought the newer version of the throne Mapex T675, which is much better.

I have the Mapex 4 legged backrest throne with very similar hardware if not identical and have this problem AND the spiral piece to adjust the height completely lifts right up out of the base. For example, if I were to grab it by the legs and turn it upside down, the entire seat and spindle would slide out of the base. I’ve hated this seat since I got it. At the time, I got it for I think 139 US dollars. Also, don’t wast time or money on four legs, they get in the way and you can’t tip a tripod. Did I mention I don’t even use the backrest anymore? If I had it to do over, I would get the three legged Ahead spinal glide or whatever it’s called, that or something with hydraulic height adjustment. Certain parts of this mapex seat function properly and everything on it is made in good quality, it just fails mechanically in at least 2 of its functions. The seat portion is very comfortable and I love the shape. However, take it back the drawling lab, mapex, get it right.

Yeah same issue ,i thought it was coz im 115 kg but apparently not,ive kind o learned to live with it but it still annoys me a bit.Had lots of mapex hardware in the past which has been 100%great ,def a bit dissapointed with this tho

If only I'd seen this video a couple weeks ago 😭 I just forked out $200 (Australian) online without a concern in the world, just about everything else on my kit is already Mapex and lve loved it all. But EXACTLY like in the vid, everything else is rock solid except that useless little connector bit, right from the get go I've had to play to the lean of the chair or else feel like I'm gonna fall off with every twist and turn...

There's a major flaw which is obvious in person but not on the internet sites and that is the locking lug tolerance/fit to the brace where the seat itself attaches to the stem. In this vid, when you showed where the seat sits on the stem, the locking lug is not a snug fit. Mapex can simply resolve the issue by allowing the seat to fit hard against the locking lug by adding more depth in the hole the stem fits into and allowing it to sit deeper on the stem allowing the seat to fit deeper on the stem and meet up with a correct tolerance and good fit to the locking lug. Then with this extra depth in the hole in the seat and actual contact with th locking lug, they should combine to make a solid unit. Then it would really be a solid seat that Mapex could be proud of. Quality over quantity is key to success. I'll be in contact personally with Mapex about this issue. If they fix the problem, good on Mapex. If not, well I'll lose faith in their quality control or design. This is coming from a guy who is now on his 5th Mapex drum kit in 20 years. I highly recommend their drums and most hardware but the saddle leaves a little to be desired. Keep up them chops. Peace and respect. Samm

Wow I was about to buy one of these thrones cause I have a mapex kit. Im a bit sad about this. I am using a really cheap and nasty throne right now and hate it cause it does this exact thing. Wobbles from side to side. I wonder if every mapex throne is the same.

I don't know as I've only tried this one, im glad you saw it before you bought though. Mapex hardware in my experience has always been less then good.

Yes, glad I clicked this video. My cheaper Mapex throne does this exact same thing. But my expensive Gibraltar throne has this problem well and truly sorted out. There is absolutely no wobble where the cushion mounts to the spindle.

What is the exact model of Gibraltar that you own? I am out to buy me a new drum throne of better quality than I got right now, and this wobble is exactly what is wrong with the one I currently own (its not mapex). Two most annoying things about drum hardware to me are wobbles and wingnuts that require a strength of a hercules to tighten to grip.

I have the original version of this throne and am finally fed up with it. Mapex needs to answer for their crimes with this thing. Mine also swivels, which I'm not sure it's supposed to?

yeah I just repaired that part with my own metal parts it took me about 15 minutes and now have been using this chair for 5+ years with no issues ... The sqeaky and wobbly seat is the only thing thats bad about this chair and once you fix it yourself it becomes your all time best friend chair for life

I bought mine used, and I can see why they sold it. Total piece of crap. I have the same issue you have, but mine also got loose where the height adjustment press fits into the bottom tube. I can literally grab the seat and lift it off and away from the bottom tube and legs.

What the hell is wrong with these companies, all of them...i had an expensive Sonor, 200$, it was a disaster, only a Tama 1st was decent but it didn`t last. I mean these are not some high end complex pieces of hardware, i really don`t understand. Maybe they all just want to keep the status quo so we have to consume thrones once a year. Just stupid.
