so many of these analysts are homers and so their bias can be pretty obvious. Last i checked the goal of hockey is to put the puck into the net using a stick, and its up to the player how they choose to shoot the puck as long as they don't throw or kick it in or deflect it above the crossbar. Doesnt matter how classless or disrespectful it was, he made a legal play slapshotting into an empty net so the league shouldn't be taking any of that into consideration. Reilly made a very dangerous hit to a player after the whistle when the extent of retaliation is in regards to a legal play of trying to score an empty net goal. Reilly should be getting a lengthy suspension for this.

i watched as a wings fan perron do this exact same thing to a player after larkin was knocked out on the ice and he got 6 games and it was labelled an awful play by perron, but these canadian announcers say "i dont think that play for grieg was needed at all" to try and soften how stupid and destructive reillys decision was......like stfu......call a spade a spade, he deserves atleast 6 games if thats what perron got. but its the leafs so hell get a fine

I think the slapshot by Greig was completely useless and inappropriate. On the other hand, crosscheck was a dumb move. You can take exception or send a message without a crosscheck to the head.

If he did a spin-o-rama or showboated before scoring, I could see a reaction, but it's a slapshot! Years ago, a Dallas player missed an empty net goal and the Oilers took it the other way and tied it up with a few seconds left. Bury it and make sure you score.

All the Leaf fans saying ‘it’s not ok to slap shot into an empty net’ Cry more. There is no penalty for ‘slap shooting the puck into an empty net.’ Nothing wrong with getting under the other team’s skin. This is why your team loses every playoff series. They’re thin skinned, who either fold under pressure, or lose their cool when things don’t go their way. And crossing checking a person to the head after the play is dead is grounds for suspension. That act is bush league and not allowed.

Does Ottawa cross check Matthews to the head the next time he scores on a legal slap shot?😀 The real issue for the Leafs is focusing on steady playoff style (disciplined) hockey to climb out their bottom Wildcard spot in points. This cross check by Morgan ( I really respect him but can’t believe he acted this foolishly) was his worst play as a Leaf & he is already suspended when the Leafs rely on him.

Well, doing that is a big middle finger to the visiting team that you are about to defeat. It's a very poor sportsmanship, disrespectful, and bush-league thing to do. NHL players should act professionally, and understand the code. Reilly enforcing the code is why he's a blue chip player that any team would like to have.
