Keep Marner on a 13.5. x 5 years and wait to get JT off the books. Use the cap space for Defence and a bunch of grinders. Get a solid 2C + a 3C who can go up and down the roster. Roll 4 lines jave a solid first line (which you have) and a killer third line (which you dont have).

Im not even a leafs fans but the hate boner for Marner and the love affair for Matthews and Nylander is mind boggling. Nylander was always the guy who should have been traded. Its not a coincidence hisnplay cratered after being paid. And the narrative that he is the best playoff performer of the 3 young guys is truly laughable. Yeah he can score off the rush when it is completely meaningless in context of the game.

I'm still annoyed with the Nylander contract. Treliving gaffed on not trading Nylander before his no trade kicked in. Nylander is going to be a Jonathan huburdue now... Yippee.

I think we pickup montour, zadorov, Stephenson should be our pickups, I’m not mad at having woll as g1 and Sammy at a low contract as g2, then trade marner for barbashev+theodore,we would defo be over cap lmaoo but the lineup would be Bert-Papi-domi Barbashev-stephenson-Willy Knies-Tavares-Mcmann Cowan-kampf-reavo Reilly-Theodore Zadorov-montour Benoit-mccabe Woll Sammy If we had the cap that’s a cup winning squad unless woll is injured

Marner team friendly deal would be giving back the money he didn’t deserve on the first contract and signing of sub 9m. It’s not happening. He’s done here. Its done. It’s over. No more. Win somewhere else. Just go. Be free. Get out.

why not try to move rielly and tavares. i know they have no trade clauses but maybe management can talk to them and make them see the light. make it worth their while. extend marner but still have the 18 million extra from rielly/tavares contracts. move Jarnkrok's 3 million and and suddenly that frees up 21 million. surely they can be creative and make it work. Then you name Matthews captain. Sign some solid defence UFAs and find an upgrade in goal and with Berube at the helm and away they go!!!!!!!!

If Nylander hadn't signed such an over priced and sealed contract, then I would be ok with a Marner signing, he is very good, but, still, can't have no move clause. That part really stinks. Besides, the other holes to fill.

Trust me, to the rest of the Non Leaf Nation watching the pain and misery is highly entertaining. I used to feel sorry for y'all but watching how amazingly dense your management is, thinking the formula that has failed over and over again, that it will work if we give it one more pull on the slot machine, is too perfect of a soap opera to give up.

It took the Oilers 9 + years to get to a Final....with their SAME core.... Nurse is at 9 mil per year....they have the exact same cap restrictions....so whats the difference? The Oilers have actually MISSED the playoffs twice in the same span. the Leafs never miss. The playoffs come down to a LOT of luck boys. quit griping, and wait until when the Leafs roster is actually set

Yeah but the Oilers have been to the WCF 2nd round twice. The oilers won 3 more rounds than Leafs before this run and lost to the cup champions twice the last 2 years. Oilers are well ahead of the Leafs.

its the delusional fans that say matthews would be nothing without marner, and then call out others for as haters, when the team made the decision last year that it was time to get rid of the core mentality and make it about the team. marner was that guy along with tavares who is a natural out. matthews and marner are just as good together as they are apart with any other solid depth scorer they cannot get filling holes with bargain pieces when salary was used up by dubas thinking he was building a basketball team instead of a hockey team
