Matthews was "the best player on either team" = WOW what a bad take. Yeah he scores goals, but ANYONE in a playoff series would take Marchand 10 times over Matthews. Stop pretending that the regular season is the be all end all. Marchand is magic, baby. Matthews has yet to prove that he's better.

C'mon with the missed call stuff guys. Tavares blatantly high-sticked McAvoy to the face in front the the B's net at one point, with no call. WAY more obvious of a call than the board battle that Matthews lost behind the net that you're buzzing about.

Reeves was a beast. Place him on a forechecking line. Put marner on a 4th line for a few shifts

Bottom line, this team isn't built to win 2-1. Guys gotta score atleast once on those 5 pp's. Special teams is the biggest difference in this series so far. Boston's has been good, Toronto's has been bad.

The Matthews non-call is always a non-call. The puck was already past him. It didn’t affect possession and it wasn’t very violent.

I am a die hard leafs talk listener and this was the best, most honest one of the whole season. JD, you’re give a 💩 o meter was spot on. We as fans, just want them to try. Put forth an effort. We’re all so disappointed (Sammy was literally twitching during parts of this podcast) we all feel the same way. Where do we go from here? I’ll always be a leaf fan but man I’m with you guys, this has got to be the end of the core four. Two periods of absolute limp 🍆 effort, in a game that they needed to win. Love the podcast boys! Hope we get one more Tavares impersonation before the season is over :)

If you look at the entirety of the second. This was the leafs best by far…right up until Bertuzzi took the Bergeron bait. Paradoxically, it was because their offensive lines were doing a great job of playing a defensive game. Dumping and chasing the puck. Shooting it out of their own zone when disrupting Boston’s formidable setups. Keeping the puck in the Bruins’ zone and mostly away from the Leafs’ zone. Aggressive forechecking, block passes, and out-muscling for the puck, leading to some juicy turnovers in the Boson and/or neutral zone. The result was that set-piece Knies goal on the rush that had eluded them throughout the series (Matthews goal in Game 2 being the exception). Sure, Boston got a lot of rushes in, but Samsonov had a clean look for all of them and was able to make the save easily until he and the Leafs defense got distracted with the Marchand kerfuffle. And after that goal, and the next one on the PowerPlay, Toronto went back to their usual cute crap. Trying to set up plays in their own zone before moving the puck ahead, giving Boston ample time to set up defensively and to generate numerous giveaways. Abandoning dump and chase on the power play, and instead, trying to cross the blue line with it. Trying to setup for too long in Boston’s zone, resulting in sticks, skates and bodies being there to block them, rather than flinging the puck to the net and either redirecting it or screening the goalie or gobbling the rebound for another try. The Leafs need to unlearn a lot of bad habits and embrace a different mindset.

Bourne nailed one of the fundamental problems. The TML are Team Marner-Mathews-Rielly-Tavares. Nobody else is invited to the club. The Penguins have the same problem. It's the Crosby-Letang-Malkin-(and formerly Guentzel) show, which is why the three quit after Guentzel was traded. It's also why Karlsson will never achieve his full potential there.

Matthews and Marner shy away from physical contact more than any other superstar duo in the league…and it’s not even close. Superstars on teams that are contenders don’t play like that. That is the largest, most glaring difference imo. Matthews will occasionally turn his butt into a player along the wall, Marner does even less. There’s no “dog” in them. They are pampered, country club, social darlings who simply don’t play playoff hockey. Just watch their body language. Maybe they can change, but there’s no evidence of it.

Buddy hasn’t had the best season but… Debrusk was fantastic in this game as well. Gotta give credit where credit is due. I’m not a leafs fan but this is the best defensive and most physical leafs team I’ve seen since that first Babs playoff team. It simply came down to Marchand and swayman > Sammy. Y’all aren’t done by any means and are still the more talented team. Win the next one and y’all are straight.

They weren't anything more than normal last year, but they ran into a hurt goalie that had been overused and unrested for years and years. He was clearly not Vas last year, and you did what playoff teams need to... take advantage. However, if he played like he had in previous years you lose that series too.

Hey JD, Justin, and Sam - there’s nothing wrong with the Leafs powerplay. The Bruins PK and goaltending have just performed better. It’s that simple. The Leafs averaged 0.75 expected PP goals per game during the regular season. During these three playoff games, the Leafs are averaging 1.20 expected PP goals per game. So, why aren’t the Leafs converting more PP, then? Bruins goaltending and PK personnel are just outplaying the Leafs’ PP.

I really hope Willy gets into this series, gives the PP another threat. Marner, Bertuzzi, Domi, Tavares, Rielly, can’t shoot as well as Nylander and Matthews

After Marchand's go ahead goal 18 seconds after the Leafs tied it 2-2 , Toronto could not get out of their end with almost 6 minutes to play and even turned it over behind their net! And don't get me started on the ref's once again dictating the narrative of the Leafs storyline with questionable officiating (this time a call as opposed to '93!) with the game on the line?

I don’t think I have ever more angry after a hockey game. I think this is it for me for this year. The Leafs played great. They are a good team 5 on 5. I don’t know what the is their freaking problem on the PP. Enough is enough every season the same garbage results. The problem is they have garbage goaltending and the officiating is infuriating. I am sick of the same garbage every game. The Leafs might win this series but their fatal flaw is they cannot depend on their goalie making routine saves. It’s just unacceptable to watch. You cannot win in the playoffs if you don’t get excellent goaltending. The team played well except the disgraceful powerplay the goalie was unacceptable. And I am done watching it.

Its legit watching soccer or baseball when the teams are warming up and tossing the ball around. 5 on 5 is real hockey. That being said they officiating of tonight game was the major major offsetting factor to the Bruins wins that is all I am going to say.
