We know less about the planet's seabed than we do about the surface of the Moon or Mars. By the end of the decade, scientists are hoping to create a detailed map of these unexplored, submerged territories. They’ve already uncovered some spectacular features.

What happens if you have a bunch of whales traveling right beneath the ship while it is mapping? Are there people monitoring this data gathering in real time in every ship all the time, or does software account for that possibility of large whales blocking the sonar, or is it not even a problem when mapping the seafloor?

Another poorly researched video from Bloomberg’s Singapore team. There’s a fair amount of classified seabed maps from the US and Russians navies. They each have a fleet of vessels for the last 70 years for the sole purposes of mapping the ocean floor. You can’t have ballistic missile subs hanging out at the bottom of the sea without knowing where the under water sea mounts are or you risk colliding into it. The worlds navies of course only map certain strategic areas and not all around the world. But the UK-Iceland-Greenland gap, the US East coast seaboard and the areas around Kamchatka and Vladivostok are well known and mapped. The US navy can’t conduct operation Ivy Bell without knowing a lot about the seabed between Vladivostok and Kamchatka.

Such low quality of journal. The value of gold is driven by demand and supply. It’s more accurate to mention the estimate volume/weight of gold deposits than using the current $of gold. If all that gold were mined golds value will plummet! Also saying things like cobalt minining in deep sea is quite dangerous. Why would you promote mining in the deep sea when we already know the harmful effects of mining on land. Sea cleanup is nearly impossible
