This is not a game, this is a work of art. I envy you, because I myself would like to forget everything and go through the game again. Like the first time.

"Witcher 3, Wild Hunt" was released May 19, 2015. Its two DLC's "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood & Wine" were released October 13, 2015 and May 31, 2016 respectively. (And you gotta play both after you finish the main game; unlike some DLC's these two could be stand alone games and are heart-wrenchingly epic.)

It's so funny, everytime Geralt says "Close your eyes" to the poor woman i have to think of when Geralt tells the Story when he first interfering in a street robbery, where a man and his daughter were robbed by a gang of outlaws, the man were about to rape the girl and murder the father. Geralt stepped in and killed most of the Outlaws in such a manner, that the rest of the man ran away, together with the father, while the girl, who was covered in the criminals blood had a hysterical fit. He then realized that, no matter what he did, noone would ever treat him as a "nobel hero" but only as the mourderous Killer Mutant he was. I like to think that that's why he told her to close her eyes, so she would not have to witness him beeing that monster.

The main game is Medieval Fantasy. The first DLC "Hearts of Stone" is more Gothic, almost horror, strongly reminiscent of the Faust legend...selling of souls and getting them back. The second DLC, Blood & Wine, is a total change from the dark, stormy cold realms of the North. Set in Toussaint, a Duchy in the south of the Nilfgaardian Empire, you have Knights in shining armor, sunshine, feasts, vineyards, tournaments...an a lot of new monsters and even more vampires. But you can get a tan and a lot of great food and wine.

This is gonna be sick, love the Witcher games!

Yes, the choices in this game have a huge meaning, so be careful. Choice practically from the beginning of the game can bite your butt at the end of it. It's pretty realistic for that matter. Choose carefully, especially as to Ciri!!!/Yennefer/Triss :)

I've never thought of if something is before or after the show. The books, the games and the TV series are all separate timelines for me. The third game was amazing. Haven't yet gotten through the first two. The TV series was good. But I still like the books the best.

Please do it on the hardest difficulty. I did it too and its kinda hard sometimes but super fun at the same time cause you have to manage your character like weapons, healing, food etc. pretty well. You can beat this on the hardest mode. Its not that hard, when you put time in your character :) PS: when its too hard you can put the difficulty down any time. btw I am so happy that you play this game. Its one of the best I have ever played!

The show is primarily based on the novels and short stories because you can take the written word and turn it into a screenplay; you can't do that with a game. You can, however, take the novels and stories and create not only a television series but also a game. The GAME is pretty much based on the world Sapkowski created in his novels and follows the political, military and national events...the game does take place after the incidents in the series because the characters in the game refer back to those incidents. In the series for example, you know how Ciri was conceived, born, grew up and moved on. The Game starts when Ciri is about 18 to 21 years old.

First, there were books. Second, there was the Polish TV series (not recommend due to low quality of special effects). Third, there were games by CD Projekt Red. And finally, there is the Netflix series. This is the right order.

First, there were the books, written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Then (not really well made) Polish series. Then, the games happened and the whole world have heard about the Witcher. After all that, Netflix released The Witcher series.

You DO play as Ciri in several quests. There is a Prologue with 5 Main quests. Act 1 has 29 Main Quests (some of which can be skipped) but 6 of them are centered around Ciri and you play as her; those cannot be skipped. Act 2 has 13 Main Quests and Act 3 has 14 Main Quests. Geralt finds Ciri in a Main quest near the end of Act 2. They are together in the last 3 Main quests in Act 2 and throughout Act 3. Several of the Main quests in Acts 2 and 3 have portions wherein Ciri acts alone (and you play as Ciri in those portions.) You cannot skip the quests where you have to take Ciri's place in the quest. (And then there are 155 Secondary Quests, 29 Contract Quests and 55 Treasure Hunt quests...you don't have to do them all. There are also some unmarked encounters where you just bump into bandits or monsters. That's in the Witcher 3 main game. As for the DLC's....will spare you the counts, but they're comparable.)

Just remember that this started out as a book series. The video game writers had PLENTY of material to work with.

Both the books and the game (The Witcher 3) are far, FAR superior to the show in terms of overall quality. You will be blown away. The show unfortunately was very low budget and did not do the books justice whatsoever. The Witcher 3, by far the best game, takes place after the books and holds true to the books feel, descriptions, lore and storytelling. Everything being represented exactly how the books describe it. Something the show fell far short of and disappointed a lot of people. Also, The Witcher 3 is gigantic. You'll need to put hundreds of hours in to do everything. The first two games are not nearly as good and you don't need to play them in order to play The Witcher 3. Do yourself a huge favor and dive into The Witcher 3. It's a true masterpiece and a life changing experience.

Good luck with the game. Started it 3rd time with expansions like 2 weeks ago. Mostly playing Gwent...it's serious fun.

The mutations the Witchers go through to allow them to use the potions they consume (which would kill a normal human) and which increase their strength, agility and speed also 1) make them sterile (possibly that aspect of the Trial of the Grasses was deliberately built in...you really don't want to create a whole race of superior humans or they would take over the world), 2) make them immune to disease, 3) changes their eyes (better vision) in all cases, 4) almost always causes some individualized physical variant (in Geralt's case, it nearly makes him an albino) and 5) greatly extends their life span (assuming a monster or a mob doesn't kill them.) Geralt may appear to be in his late 30's but he is definitely over 50 and possibly much older. The lore establishes his birth year as 1174, one year prior to Yennifer, but some sources indicate he was born in 1160. The events of the game (Witcher 3, Wild Hunt) apparently take place in 1272...which would make him close to 100 years old.

Yennifer is usually held to be Geralt's primary lover, but there is some evidence their feelings were "enhanced" by a magic spell. In a riot where humans were killing dwarves and elves, Geralt intervened and was killed by a peasant with a pitchfork. Both he and Yennifer were ...resurrected? by magic and Geralt made the bargain whereby he actually joined the Wild Hunt for several years and developed amnesia. Around this time he became involved with another sorceress, Triss Merigold. He remembers their romance and does not remember Yennifer for several years. Triss and a human medic (also a redhead) named Shani were rivals for Geralt's love during the first game, "The Witcher." At that time, Shani was a medical student. (She and Geralt were very close; friends with benefits. Shani broke off the relationship because she knew Geralt would not be the constant soul mate she wanted and that his deepest affections were for Yennifer...or possibly Triss. She later became a full doctor, Dean of Medicine at Oxenfurt Academy, and died in 1340 at the age of 90.) He also had a brief affair with yet another Sorceress, Fringilla Vigo, while in the Duchy of Toussaint. This came to a relatively sudden end due to Geralt's unfortunate habit of calling her "Yennifer" whilst in the throes of passion. Bad form, Geralt.

I just started playing this game after having it in my library for 2 years, yeah I know. Been watching some of the trailers and I'm wondering how I missed this gem. WTF was I doing 5 years ago that I missed this release.

The keep you see 18 minutes in is Kaer Morhen, the Stronghold of the Wolf School of Witchers. (There are or were six schools of Witchers, Wolf, Bear, Viper, Griffin, Manticore and Cat. Each school varies slightly in armors preferred, light, medium or heavy, styles of combat and weapons, and the relative dependence on weapons, Signs and potions. Each School had a fixed stronghold, with the exception of the School of the Cat, which maintained a mobile training regimen in the Dyn Marv Caravan. The Cats were the only known Witchers who trained elves and apparently females as well. They focused on speed, precision and agility...and a lack of standard Witcher morality. While the other Schools maintained a stance of neutrality toward races and nations, the Cats tended to take sides and eventually slipped away from only hunting monsters...they started taking jobs as spies and assassins. While Witchers are generally distrusted by humans, Cats are distrusted by pretty much everyone, including other Witchers.

This game is from May 2015, and there is STILL no game on the market that surpasses it in terms of story, quality, graphics, and presentation.

This is maybe the only game where being over encumbered is not totally a bad thing, I’m at a point with my inventory where I’m getting over encumbered often and I don’t mind too much because I love just walking around and being immersed. I just past the 100hr mark and I haven’t even left the first map (Velen/Novigrad).

I'm actually playing the Witcher 3 for the first time right now on the PC with max settings, hairworks plus better texture pack mods and it does look really good, the game is also very long and I know I've got a long way to go as I feel I'm not even half way through the game and then there is the two big dlc contents. Great value for money this game.

Hi, Yap, Ciri in the games is older and much more based on the books. Remeber that the series now are based on Ciri when she was around 10-13 years old... And before she started the training in Kaer Morhen (Witcher's seat) and the training with Yennefer ;) She is the main character in the books actually ;) Yennefer and Geralt was the Father/Mother figure for her... Great game, best I've ever played, and GREAT books. Series I hope will catch up to the level they deserve. :) Best wishes, and have lot of fun during the game.

Oh and by the way... usually AAA games are about 10/12 hours of gameplay... You won't finish the Witcher in less than 150 hours... and if you really like to explore and search the world and side quests you will have entertainment for 250/300 hours easily... its a story line beast and with huge maps.

The best game ever created. There´s no discussion. It's not a game, it's a life experience. By the way, the series is the last thing that came out, the game came before. Any of the trailers, especially "A Night to Remember", have more of The Witcher than the entire Netflix series. Not to mention the expansions. Each expansion is better than many current games. As they say in other comments above, seeing someone who has not played it fills you with emotion because he has no idea what he is going to experience.
