Maradonas peak was early when he was thin. 1976 to 1984. Yes 86 was incredible at the world cup but he stood out because he actually trained. In napoli you could see his fast decline because of his lifestyle and he rarely trained. Once a week sometimes. In his early years he was the best player we will ever see on earth

Right. But also keep in mind that he always suffered from bad injuries and had a broken ankle since 1983 which got infected regularly. Considering his lifestyle, his cocaine addiction and the punishment he took on the pitch it's no wonder he crashed hard in Napoli. It's unbelievable how he could still even play football at such a high level. I remember one game against Moscow in the 1990/91 european cup season when he was deeply into his addiction and they played in Napoli and Maradona was so brilliant that day that Napoli should have won like 5:0 because he created so many chances but his team mates just couldn't score. In the away game in Moscow they lost in the penalty shoot out and Maradona had chartered a private jet to get there because he had been paryting all week and missed the flight with his team.

And btw. he had gain the muscle mass seen in 86 to endure the abusement he got in Serie A. Even a Maradona out of fitness as we saw in from around 87 and onwards was still easily the best player in the World!

An absolute joy to have been alive to see Maradona grace a football field when defenders could kick him waist high, the football was heavy in comparison yo the modern day and the pitches could be terrible. Messi, Ronaldo and other modern day stars etc would be happy to polish this man's boots

The best ever. Messi is a close second, but Messi is like a clone, whereas Diego is 100% authentic, football in its purest form. It’s in the subtleties, the feathery touches, the finesse, the way he caresses the ball, the way he’s at one with the ball. Maradona could juggle an egg and not break it

Yes, everyone can have their own opinion about certain football players or teams and we should respect them. But, after re-watching this video and once again refreshing the memory of Maradona's game, for me personally there is no question as to which of the two big "M" I consider the best. Yes, the one about whom many (and many) songs were written; the one literally deified in the city where he played (which was not in the country of his birth and citizenship). And the number of Golden Balls or scored goals is all frankly nonsense.

I think he's better than messi. Messi is explosive and faster but I think Maradonna can hold possession the whole game without getting tired. maybe 2 games in a row. He has a Bernardo Silva type dribbling style with explosiveness, and better vision, shooting and passing. Messi looks like he has to work had.

Way better than Messi. Maradona made the worst teams into champions all his career, which is the most difficult thing any player can do. Messi could never do anything like that, he doesn't have Maradona's ability, skills, vision, guts etc. Messi always needs a super strong team around him. Plus players get full referee protection now from nasty tackles, which Maradona never had, Messi would not be able to do most of the stuff he does in Maradona's time, as he would be flattened every few minutes. If Maradona was playing today, Messi would look like a third rate player

No es por nada y creo en que Messi no supera a Maradona pero…… después de ver gambetear a Messi. Maradona se ve tan básico. Realmente bastante menos eléctrico en su gambetear. Hasta se nota paquidermico. Creo que su grandeza radicó en un conjunto de cosas diferentes a gambetear solamente. Donde Messi es mejor años luz!
