If you appreciate the work I do here on the channel and would like to help me create more content like this, Super Thanks is a great way to help out. It allows me to purchase the products and supplies I need; making these videos possible. Thank you! :-D
When it comes to Virtual Reality Meta's Quest headsets are by far the most popular devices on the market today thanks to their compelling experiences, ease of use and affordable pricing. The Quest 2 is currently the most widely used virtual reality device in the world, but Meta recently launched it's successor, the Quest 3. Now when it comes to technology, we all know the newer version of a product is typically the better product, but the Quest 3 sells for twice as much as the Quest 2 and those that have used a Quest 2 know it actually offers a pretty impressive virtual and mixed reality experience. So naturally the question arises whether or not the Quest 3 is a big enough step up to make it worth paying twice as much for? Since the Quest 3 launched in October of 2023 I've been using it and have found the most notable differences between it and it's predecessor. In this video I cover everything from the physical differences between both headsets to media consumption (yes, you can watch movies and TV shows on the Quest 2 and Quest 3 on GIANT virtual screens), to the weight of each headset, to the difference in the lenses, the controllers, the battery life, the display tech, the processors powering each headset and using them for PC VR. For anyone that is considering buying a Quest 3, whether you're thinking about upgrading from the Quest 2 or looking to purchase your first VR headset, this video will give you the best comparison you can find online to help you decide whether Meta's latest and greatest headset is worth your hard earned money, or if the Quest 2 is the better choice for you. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy.
If you'd like to check out the head strap I'm using with my Quest 3 here's the link to it on Amazon I talked about in the video. amzn.to/428JB0P

Great review between the 2 headsets as always very thorough, you touched on every single thing that's important imo. I'm coming from a Rift S/Quest 1 so Q3 is a huge upgrade for me so I didn't need any convincing but your comparison was very reassuring. Is corny to say this but you've become one of my favorite VR/tech KZfaqrs. 👍

The quest 3 is worth it for the lenses it self with the quest 2 when your looking from left to right with your eyes or anywhere that would be a peripheral looking forward gets blury and weird looking the lenses and that extra res bump is amazing being able to see clearly playing games like ghosts tabor or contracts can put you at such bad disadvantage and it just is alot better on the eyes if you get moton sickness playing any fast passed game it causes less disorientation

@@prestenbogosavljevic4759 It's a huge upgrade over the Quest 1 at least. Much better image quality thanks to the higher resolution. The entire device is smaller and lighter and more comfortable to wear. The pass through is color and in many cases good enough to read some stuff off of phone screens (I used that in the setup process for example). And ofc it has more processing power than the Quest 1. Wireless PCVR also worked pretty good. I'm happy with the upgrade overall.

As an editor, I caught the stabilization done in the pass through demo. Just wanted to feel cool by noticing it. Good video 🍻
@Maraksot78
@Maraksot78 3 ай бұрын
That stabilization is actually done by the headset as I was recording. As you may know, it's one of the recording options in the Quests settings. When not recording directly to the headset I'll record PCVR gameplay using Oculus mirror which also has stabilization that way I don't have to do anything in post. The stabilization is done right then and there as I'm recording. I feel it makes VR footage more comfortable for people to watch. I never realized how much we move our heads around until I watched VR or POV footage with no stabilization. It's pretty crazy how shaky it is. But as an editor I imagine you're already very familiar. 😅

To me one of the reasons to get a Quest3 was the passthrough. Color and with depth, but besides that, why I like the Quest3 better are the loudspeakers. With the Quest2 I couldn't play a game (especially Beatsaber) without earplugs. But with the Quest3 I don't need them. Also PCVR gaming is much better with a Quest3 than with the Quest2. I have a 64gb Quest2, and decided to buy the 512gb Quest3. And that's never too much capacity. Also the smaller controllers are much better than those clunky big Quest2 controllers. To me all these were enough reasons to upgrade.

I can actually use VR while walking around and doing activities and chores irl around my house. Quest 2 is also pretty far from usable for everyday life passthrough. Apple might be the best game in town right now, but the Quest 3 has functional colour passthrough for an affordable price. That is heckin awesome.

@jinxed13 My first VR experience was the Virtual Boy in the 90s. I just tried out a demo of it at Toys R Us or some place, but the tech was far from ready for prime time. The Virtual Boy left A LOT to be desired. It wasn't until a good 20 years later in 2016 that I got my first taste of more modern VR with the HTC Vive. I wanted to buy one then but I couldn't justify the cost at the time. Not to mention, I didn't have a good enough PC for VR then either. When the Quest 2 came along for only $300 and was getting very positive reviews as both a stand alone and PC VR headset that's when I finally bought my first VR headset. Pretty quickly after that I bought a Kobra Elite stock on eBay, made a video about it, and then met you and Si. So it was a good choice. 😁

My quest 3 has some very noticeable lens glare in the right lighting conditions that I feel is not being talked about enough. From what I can tell, it is an artifact of the multi layer pancake style of lenses. If you have a bright image with dark areas, you will likely see some light being bounced between lens layers and creating a glare or light bleed into the darker parts of the image. I accept that there are More premium VR headsets available at higher price points than my quest 3 and the pancake lenses although not perfect, still allow for a lower profile optical stack and goggle assembly. …but I really feel strongly that this issue isn’t being discussed by consumers or acknowledged by Meta.
@AJ-po6up
@AJ-po6up 3 ай бұрын
I saw a review where someone mentioned this and even explained with a graph why it happens and yeah it has to do with the way the lenses are arranged, either way it's not that bad, if you've used headsets in the past you would know that glare and godrays have always been part of the experience and it was way worse with fresnel lenses, in fact pretty much everything was worse. There are no "premium headsets" with better optics than the Quest 3 right now, yeah there are some with higher resolution and OLED panels but they will still exhibit the same glare, and new ones no matter the price will use pancake lenses as fresnel is outdated and frankly it was always bad and almost unusable, so for the foreseeable future it will continue to be a problem, probably until a new generation or iteration of lenses comes out. Btw even the Apple Vision Pro suffers from this phenomenon so it's not just on Meta, it's a quirk of the technology, remember this is basically the first generation of these lenses after all, it will hopefully get better with time but they're a huge step up from fresnel that's for sure.

Is there a point in getting the meta 3 with bigger memory is you don't download it to the headset?. I use the meta quest 2 airlink and everything is just saved to my computers drives. So isn't it just better to get the regular one.

Just knowing the pass through and lenses are better is worth the upgrade alone. On the quest 2, taking a break and stepping out of your boundary into a blurry gray world is incredibly jarring. Plus as the aforementioned "sweet spot" is just annoying on those smaller lenses. My sweet spot it on the lower part of the lense so I'm either tilting my head up, constantly looking down, or just dealing with a bit of blur. The only times where the blur isn't noticeable is on brighter games like Superhot VR. Like I'm almost speedrunning through the start up and menus to get to a game because the menu is one big blur with a sliver of clearness.

I see a lot of people on the comments that have all the versions of the quest my suggestion to you is if you are unsure just get the quest 2 and see how it treats you for a few years instead of running a technological rat race I have had the quest 2 for many years and since the quest 3 the price of the quest 2 accessories have reduced rapidly and are often on sale you can get an absolutely epic bundle deal for the quest 2 for about $300 You're talking elite strap battery packs carry cases all in that price range or on the other hand if you're feeling a little bit technological and you want to go for the best of the best go for the quest 3 no harm no foul either way it's your money and your choice

I have sold my quest 2 before quest 3 came out. I loved it but I did not have enough time to play anymore. Since, I did not checked any VR related videos/reviews until today. I am very surprised to see that VR gaming basically stacked . It seems like it can't move forward due the huge success of Quest 2. As you said it doesn't worth for developers to make exclusives or even to update games for quest 3. Don't get me wrong there are some very , very fun games starting from simple like 11 table tennis to more complex simulations like Contractors. It's just most of these games from your list were already out before quest 3 came out.

Honestly pal I'm not hating at all. Different strokes and all that. But what makes walkabout mini golf the best game you have ever played? I see people say that all the time and I just don't understand it? It's just mini golf? It's a glorified tech demo saying hey you can use this thing to golf. Like I could understand someone that is into golfing playing something like golf+ because it has real life courses and full on physics, but mini golf? Have you not played anything else on the quest store? There are so many games with so much more substance than that. But like I said different strokes I guess.

@@codyholbrooks4875 I'll answer that. Walkabout is one of those rare games that makes me feel like I'm on holiday. No other game I've played does such a good job of it. The devs have done a great job creating the right atmosphere in this game. They understand VR better than other devs do. How much do you pay for a round of real mini golf? Walkabout is better than playing real mini golf imo. I've played golf+. It's good but the graphics let it down compared to walkabout Mini golf. I would rather play real golf than golf+ tbh. Finally, look at the rating of Walkabout in the Meta store and read the reviews there if you need more convincing. It is one of the highest rated VR games ever made.

@Maraksot78
@Maraksot78 Ай бұрын
Depending on your vision, you may or may not need to wear your glasses when using either headset. My daughter has pretty poor vision and has to wear glasses all the time, but doesn't need them when playing VR. Other people I know however need their glasses for VR to be able to see clearly. For people who need their glasses there are companies that make insert lenses like VR Rock and VR Wave to your prescription but they do of course cost you extra. Like I talk about in the video, the Quest 2 comes with a glasses spacer which attaches to the facial interface and gives you a little extra space between the headset lenses and your eyes giving you space to wear your glasses and the Quest 3 has a spacing mechanism built in to the interface to achieve the same thing.

The money I earn however is very helpful, as I use it to purchase new products and other equipment to help me continue making content like this on KZfaq. So by using my link you're helping the channel, which I am very grateful for. Thanks. :D

I am someone that's on a budget and want to try VR, but due to the budget limitation I can either get a VR headset, quest 2 or 3. a gaming PC (way more expensinve) or a ps5. I don't have any gaming device right now and have little time to spend gaming anyway. What would be your choice if you were in this situation ? (Of course based on your preferences, I understand you're not lisan al ghaib to know my preferences x) )
@Maraksot78
@Maraksot78 26 күн бұрын
Based on what you've said here... You said you're on a budget and want to try VR, soooo... I'm going to assume you've never tried it before? If that is the case and you don't know anyone, i.e. a friend or family member who has a Quest headset for example, I would first try to find a place where you can demo a VR headset so you can get a taste of it and see if you feel like spending the money on a headset of your own is going to be worth it or not. If that's not possible and you need to buy something yourself to give it a try, I would start with the Quest 2. It's currently very inexpensive compared to all other options and provides a very good VR experience and will let you get a good taste of VR and help you decide if it's worth it to you or not to spend more money on a Quest 3 and/or if you want to take the next step into PC VR or not. I wouldn't even think about buying a gaming PC or a PS5/PSVR2 combo for someone just getting into VR. I would try out the Quest 2 for awhile, see what you think of it and then go from there. Just FYI; when you first start using VR, when playing games that use artificial locomotion (meaning you walk around the game world using a joystick) you will most likely experience some motion sickness. There are some lucky people who do not suffer from this ever but I believe the majority of people do. There's something about our eyes seeing motion and our bodies not feeling it that triggers something in our brains and we become uncomfortable and it can trigger motion sickness. I am one of those people who got sick playing VR when I first got into it. It took me several weeks of playing VR a little each day to get used to. If you slowly acclimate yourself to VR it is a lot of fun, but when you start to get a headache from it or feel sick then you want to stop right then and there. If you try and power through (which is something I did try and do not recommend) you only end up feeling worse. I found playing games where you're stationary is the best way to start out. Games like Beat Saber, Job Simulator and Demeo are good ones for this. You stay in one place all the time and don't need to move around all that much. There's only so much of games like that you can take however before you want to try other experiences. Once I was comfortable with those kinds of games I moved on to games that had a good set of comfort options that allow you play in different ways and allow you to slowly build up your "VR legs" (it's like a sailor getting their "sea legs" but for VR instead). I played Resident Evil 4 and Red Matter 2 which both allow you the option to teleport to get around which I know sounds like it would be weird, but it's MUCH more comfortable for people who are new to VR than smooth locomotion. Slowly over time I would try using smooth locomotion along with the blinders which some games have in their settings. Blinders is a setting where your peripheral vision gets blocked as you move. When standing still you see the entire image as you look around but when you press the joystick to start moving in a certain direction your field of view narrows and kinda looks like you're in a dark tunnel and you just see what's out in front of you. This is supposed to help with motion sickness as you get less of that sensation of motion because you don't see the stuff in your periphery moving, and only see what's in front of you. Personaly I didn't like the blinder settings. Using it felt weird and unnatural to me, so I only used it briefly to see if it would help but in the end turned it off. For awhile I switched back and forth from using smooth locomotion to teleporting and over time I could handle the smooth locomotion for longer and longer periods of time until I reached the point where now smooth locomotion no longer bothers me and I can play shooters like Contractors as well as other games where you need to use smooth locomotion without a problem. I share this because I want you to have a positive experience with VR and also understand that if you are someone who ends up experiencing VR motion sickness that it is something you can acclimate to, just like a sailor gets their sea legs, you can get your VR legs if you put in the time. I've met people who've tried VR once before and say they don't like VR because it made them feel motion sick and they're unwilling to even try a game like Beat Saber because they're afraid it's going to make them sick. That makes me feel a little sad for them because I feel they're missing out on something they may actually find really cool and enjoy. I love VR and want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy it too.

Just have a look around on the store you can find things that are quite mature such as the exorcist VR there is card games that you can play hell even chess if you're looking for something more mature and more adult themed?
