Would be fun to have one from the days of the plant in Michigan. All these knives now from China, we are shooting ourselves in the foot by settling for them. I have some myself, just wish things were different is all.

Same here.. I resist Chinese stuff as much as possible.. then if I do buy because it's not made here I look for cheapest prices.. don't give in too easily is all I can say..

A nice selection, TK. The Sodbuster is a wonderful clean, no frills design. I do prefer the fullsize version because of my big catcher’s mitts. I have several, including an early ‘70’s Case. The Sodbuster is one of the best Case patterns ever, in my opinion.

TK that is a beautiful knife $9.99 can't beat it. I always get seven eight or even 10 knives for Christmas for all the men in the family. I wish I would have saw this one before I made the choice I did! On a side note I can't remember who show it was I think it was yours I bought the Roper sow belly Stockman with the bone handle. For $14.80 I think it was. From Atlantic knife. I don't remember whose video I saw it on. But I think it was your video. I couldn't believe how much knife I got for 1480. Fantastic knife thank you! Back to this knife this sodbuster is very nice! Thank you TK.

Good looking Knife. As far as walk and talk, my fav so far in the budget lines , is the RR APTA, they have a very nice walk and talk.

One thing I like about this one is the size. Most sodbusters out there follow the Case approach of 4.5”, too large; and 3.5”, too small. 3.75” might be just right. RR also has the blackthorn lockback version at 4”. I ordered both to try ‘em out. Yours looks to be nicely finished. I like a Marbles. Thanks!

Thanks TK, a great review of this beautiful wee knife, I also have this knife very pleased, I love the sod buster shape and have bought a good few this year ranging from the Imperial you mentioned up to the Boker Magnum in Snakewood. I am thinking of purchasing the Hen and Rooster in either buffalo horn or smooth white bone, in the near future. Thanks again TK, Take care Sam

Marble's did a good job with this one. I do like that this one is simply a slip joint without a lock. It has an excellent backspring so the lack of lock is no big deal. Blue Ridge Cutlery owns the TM. Blue Ridge contracts SMKW to make the Marbles (China) knives.

@@ThriftyKaniffy , I do not know but I would not doubt there is some type of connection. Both use Susan Flohr for the Attorney of record. But Frost also uses Susan for the attorney of record for many of their trademarks, also. So it is really just one more piece of the pie. The real key is Philip S. Martin if the owner of record for the the Marble's brand. My guess, is Philip and Kevin Pipes are probably business associates in some way.

Good presentation on the Marbles mr579 work knife. I just ordered on and can’t wait to get it in my hand. I’ve been a Case Collector for years but lately I’ve been impressed by the workmanship of knives coming out of China. In your opinion which Chinese maker has the best quality knife? Thanks

Boy that would be tough to say. For traditional budget knives Brother have been really consistent, give them a shot and see what you think. You can get them on Amazon.

It's a nice looking knife. I'd like to get one but I'm a little gunshy on Marbles lately. I've had a lot of defects, specifically poor grind and blade rap right out of the box.

Blade grind is a little wonky. Could use some shaping up, but nothing too extreme.

Hey TK, is their anyway to loosen/work out the pull on a slipjoint? I just bought a marbles scout and old-timer scout and they are both nail breakers

The best way I've found is to open and position the offending blade/s so that the spring/s extends furthest away from the handle. Shelf the knife for a few days with the blades in this position and then see if it improves. If not, give it more time. Hope it helps.

Good advice from TK. Something else to consider is if you have a vice in your workshop or garage grip the blade in the vice with the blade horizontally. Protect the blade with thin cardboard so that the vice jaws don't mark the blade. (I have rubber covered vice jaws). Oil the pivot and then just revolve the knife handle around the blade multiple times. ( I usually do 100 opening and closing actions) this usually ( but not always ) helps to make opening the knife a bit easier afterwards. You are effectively opening and closing the knife multiple times without the hassle of breaking your nail. Make sure the blade is really gripped tightly by the vice otherwise you're going to swear. Also watch that the knife handle doesn't hit the vice jaws as this could mark the handle. I usually only have half of the blade in the vice grips as this allows the handle to rotate further.

That looks a lot like a Rough Ryder blade on that Marble's, most likely the same factory in China that made it.

When I think of budget knives in traditional patterns, my mind instantly goes to one of Frost's many brands or Rough Rider. Marbles almost never computes. A shame, really, they seem to put out some decent stuff for cheap. I've got their canoe in Ram's Horn, and its a little better than the RR version, in my opinion.

I think Marbles are a touch better than Rough Ryder although its said they are made in the same factory, the only thing I don't like with this one is the tang being so proud causing a nasty sharp corner to catch.

Prefer the Marbles sod to the linerlock RR sod too. The perfect knife is tough to obtain.
