Nearly 24 hours later i went back to the site of the Marcal fire. In this video you'll see the extreme conditions crews endured including subzero temperatures and sever icing conditions. thought the video i cut back between shots i took last night and the remains of today.

I had not looked! I didn't want to see! I clocked out that very day at four thirty. I got home with no clue that five minutes back a fire had erupted! I got home. I didn't watch the news. So my mind was not corrupted. I worked for the logistics company NFI only two weeks. I was in shock that morning at four thirty. There was no way to get in. I finally ask, and it was to be that part of Marcal Paper had burned indeed. Felt really sad 😢 but glad no one was hurt and thanks to the first responder for all the help!

Here in the UK our most devastating fire was Grenfel Tower in June 2017. Lots of lives lost in that terrible incident. Thankfully here, nobody seems to have been injured, and while the loss of this iconic landmark is in itself a tragedy, I am sure people will pull through. Fire crews the world over seldom get recognition for what they do, often in terrible conditions and at great risk. Thanks for this update. The scale of destruction couldn't be determined from the nighttime videos of the fire, so seeing this has been very interesting.

Thank you for the great words towards these fine people. The firefighters endured unspeakable conditions that night from what it looked like. I am not too far from there, and we were in the single digits during those days. Horribly bitter cold weather and strong winds. God bless These Fine men and women that go out there and risk their lives so that we may be able to continue to live ours if we're ever caught in a tragedy

Saw a couple documentaries on Grenfel. A national tragedy all because the ornamental facade wasn't properly fire-tested by the manufacturer - and all most people could do was just watch it burn.

Yes. The Marcal paper company was a true New Jersey land Mark! You did a fantastic job of showing us how it was the night before. And today. One place that always reminded me of we were getting closer to our home in PARSIPPANY. Was when we saw the Marcal paper company's red neon sign. As it was right on the edge of the Passaic river. Dividing Bergen and Passaic counties. But sadly it no longer exists. My heart goes out to the employees who worked there. I heard on Eyewitness news that 50 fire departments responded! And there were 300 firefighters on scene. And it went to 10 alarms! How sad! Also the SUSQUEHANNA RAILROAD has 1 less customer. As they would bring in box car's full of paper. But sadly no more. Again you did an AWESOME job!

There was a paper plant in my hometown that went up in the matter of minutes. Spontaneous combustion. Even after the fire was out it was still smoldering a week later. I drove our heavy tow truck out and started moving employees cars away from the building and bashing down loading bay doors with the boom. Employees didn't have a chance to grab anything. It wasn't a very old factory and unfortunately they never rebuilt.

This fire started in the middle of a ragging cold snap windstorm. That alone is a major fire hazard as heating systems get overworked and overheat in key parts. Chances are the fire investigators will find that a heating duct system and paper dust clogged fan motor started the fire. Cold snaps are a major fire hazard despite their cold.

I would imagine they are a little frozen yes. I worked a fire once in a shooting range attached to a gun shop. It was in December. It was in the south though so I doubt it was this cold. But by the time I left the scene the pockets on my turnout coat were frozen sticking straight out. It was probably the coldest I've ever been. The parking lot all around the building was one sheet of ice.

I am seeing this Great Video after watching the 2.5 hour Video of same scene from a colleague out of NYC I am very aware you know each other! This video you put together as an interesting during and after work and it is outstanding! I hope you both have warmed back up and stand ready for the next one! I used to live in Cliffside Park so I ask was any northern Bergen County called other than coverage? My playground before I moved to NC was Seaside Heights, which was the bigger fire Demonracer2?

The brand name was Marcal, one of their main products was Marcal toilet paper and as far as rebuilding that has not been determined yet

Do Firetrucks in US not have Blue Emergency Lights? I only see red ones. I think that blue lights are better recognizable because red is already used for brake and taillights.

If you want to know what started it, I don’t think they ever found out. If your asking how it became so bad... it’s a paper mill, even without tons of fuel (paper product) laying around there are also chemicals used in the processing that would act as an accelerant. Plus, one of the videos I saw of the fire suggested that there was a propane tank explosion as well.
