Opening up the laptop to cast another vote for the cloud swatches for two reasons: 1) they conserve ink and paper, and 2) they are a better representation of the ink color than the big pools of ink from the cups. Love your videos! Thanks for doing them for us. All the best, Donna

I just got to the section where you're talking about the Every Rose Has Its Thorn pen. I have so many thoughts! I love that pen so so so much. It is also one of my favorites, and I have also named mine (albeit not very excitingly). I always name my pens though, because I don't like writing the full pen model when I'm journaling, so they all get individual names. It is important to me that it is "the first word/concept/song" that comes to mind when I first hold it. This one is named "Every Rose" but I already had that in my mind since I love the song it is named after. Honestly, if you've never heard the song, give it a listen! It might help with naming inspo. Also, all my rose gold pens have that type of name, like my white RG twsbi eco is "White Rose" and my white RG mini is "Chibi Rose" 😅 my brain makes associations in obvious ways, but honestly I advocate for naming our pens! It's very fun.

At first I missed the cup swatch, but as your video continued, I decided I quite liked the little clouds. I especially liked that they are “raining”. I think it’s a bit easier to tell what the actual ink color is from this type swatch. I’m extremely busy trying to pick out my favorite color. Golly, they might all be my favorite! Thank for sharing.

I have a TWSBI mini white and rose gold as well and I’ve only ever had one ink color in it-Oyster Hour! I actually have two bottles of Oyster Hour and both I received by accident. They’re mislabeled as Steeped Umber. When I reached out to get a replacement, I received another mislabeled one! I was SO disappointed because I really love rich brown inks and thought Oyster Hour would be too light. I made the mistake of trying it in my Platinum Procyon which is an incredibly dry writer and lightens up any ink I put in it. But when I tried it in my TWSBI, I fell in love. The shading is beautiful. And the way that it changes as it dries? I suddenly was very happy that I got a full two bottles.

Love this color palette. It is a good idea to clean pens when changing inks because not all inks are compatible and mixes can create mini deposits that clog your feed.

Beautiful inks!! It's fascinating how much a difference the paper makes. Note on pronunciation of the Herbin inks. Terre rhymes with "pear" and feu rhymes with "ugh"; and larmes rhymes with "arm" (French has lots of silent s's!)-hope that's useful!

Oh man! After seeing that Every Rose Sailor I think I may have a grail pen after all! That is so gorgeous! Love the new swatches and that colour palette has had an impact on my wish list. I am not buying things online though, so it will be tricksy to get ahold of them.

What a lovely collection, Liane! I love the little clouds--so whimsical! And I had no idea the Sailor "Every Rose" came in H-MFs! I've never seen one! That pen in MF was one of my first fountain pen purchases over a year ago and I still write with it at least once a week. A truly reliable pen that is just gorgeous to look at! The twsbi wrench works to open the piston chamber on the custom 823 if need be. I find that helpful when i want to change ink colors.

Another Every Rose fan here! I’m not in North America so when it first came out, I just accepted that I’d never have one, plus it was way pricier than any of my PGS had been this far. I got it for myself this year as a Freedom Gift (my divorce from a toxic relationship) and it is hands down my absolute favorite pen ever, the symbolism aside.

Great video Liane. I love J Herbin inks as well, lots of them have beautiful shading. Highly recommend Lie de The and vert Gris. I know what you mean about the colours they just have a vintage vibe which is quite fitting for one of the oldest ink manufacturers.

It’s so funny because I also bought my Every Rose Has Its Thorn secondhand. I had always lusted over this pen but it was so out of my price bracket that I couldn’t get it. But a person on a fountain pen group posted about hers and I cheekily responded saying if she ever falls out of love with it and wants to sell, I’m keen. Honestly, I never expected her to sell it or remember my comment. Months later, she messaged me and told me she loves the pen but not enough to keep it in her collection… do I still want to buy it? She wanted to pass it on to someone who would love it more than her. The price was still a lot higher than I could afford at that moment but she let me pay it off. It’s now mine and like you, it is one of my absolute favourites. That nib is everything. Mine has such a glorious bounce to it. But what is better is that we connected over this pen and I now have a new online friend 😊

Your currently inked vids are so relaxing to watch (& I love your handwriting and color choices)! If you're looking for help, easiest way to learn to pronounce "Terre de Feu" is to try French to English translation on Google Translate, then click on the little audio button and the nice computer lady will demo how to say it. It's basically "terr deuh feuh" -- means land/soil/earth of fire. ☺❤❤

This selection is gorgeous! I love all the purples. I've been feeling in a very purple mood this month, this weekend I want to ink up some new pens with purple inks. Have you tried J. Herbin Pousierre de Lune? That's one of my favourite inks ever.

i saw someone using kakimori lauscha glass pen to do swatching months ago. it's a bit too expensive for me and i'm the clumsy type so i'm scared that i break the nib. i did have the idea to use a glass coffee stirrer but wasn't sure if it would work. so thank you! definitely you should consider sticking with this new swatching method.

I love your colour palette, a favourite J. Herbin for me is Poussière de Lune (Moondust). It would also fit this palette. Oyster Hour is also among my favourite.

Wonderful video and a very entertaining watch. I loved hearing about how you found your way to the Every Rose Has Its Thorn Sailor (or how it found its way to you, I suppose 😉). Also, yay for loving Spadina Rose!! It's such a lovely, reliable ink, and I'm so glad you're enjoying it. (This video did remind that I still need to grab a bottle of Opera Rose, though. My wallet weeps. LOL) I'm also loving the little cloud swatches. So cute and still so effective at showing off the ink properties. I'm so impressed when people come up with beautiful and interesting ways to swatch. It took me forever just to find a way to make decent circles that worked for me. Anything beyond that is just too hard. 😅 Beautiful ink lineup all the way around!

You can mix some inks from the same brands and the same line within the brand. Quick research will tell you whether something is mixable. The 823 is a pest to clean but only takes a little bit longer than others and worth the time considering the cost of the pen. Terre de Feu is pronounced “tear - de - furh” ( tear as in rip and feu ends in a soft r sound).

Love your ink choices. Also you should clean out your pens before re-inking, especially with different brands. (I have been told that some brands will interact with other brands). I like the new swatching better too.

A tip on how to pronounce TERRE DE FEU: Say "tear duh fuh" - Terre = Tear (as in "tear a piece of paper") - De = duh - Feu = fuh / pheuh (it's one syllable instead of "phee-ew") Hope that helps! ^^
