Marco Polo Cebu - Timeless Charm or Worn Out?

The Marco Polo Plaza Cebu is one of top hotels in Cebu, located at the base of the Nivel Hills it provides some of the best views of Cebu City.
I also check out Cebu's farmers market (located in the car park of Marco Polo Cebu) and take a look at some of the best fresh produce from around Cebu.
The Marco Polo has one of the top buffets in Cebu at Cafe Marco. Other great food options include their El Viento Restaurant and Pool Bar, Lobby Lounge and BLU Bar & Grill and Hai Shin Lou that specialises in Cantonese Cuisine and fresh seafood.
The hotel has 329 rooms and I take a look at the deluxe and premier rooms. Choose from city/ocean views or mountain views. For best rates at the Marco Polo have a look at their website or your favourite 3 party booking site such as TripAdvisor. Agoda or booking.com.

Marco Polo is my go-to hotel in Cebu. Nothing beats the view. The grandness of the lobby adds to the charm. And it’s mostly reasonably priced.

Rob, my asawa and I really enjoyed your revisit to Marco Polo! Back in 2015 we looked online for a nice place to stay in Cebu and found your review on your older YT channel “Rob Brand.” Based on your review, we stayed there and were happy to find great food and very friendly staff. Their buffet is our favorite in Cebu. We were last there in 2019 and stayed a few days in their suite, which is much nicer that their regular rooms (I agree with you on their regular rooms are just average). I’m glad that you have not taken down your older “Rob Brand” channel, as it is nice to see pre-covid Cebu…a much happier time. You should do dual posts, one to your older channel to keep it alive. Anyone reading this, please check out Rob's older channel...very enjoyable!

I thought it was due for an updated review! Still one of the better places to stay in Cebu even if it is getting on a bit with age! I should of looked back at my old video as I forgot most of what I would of said then. Next time you go if you on the weekend you should check out the farmers market! I really enjoyed that and chatting to the people there.

I stayed at the Marco Polo hotel in 2018 and enjoyed my stay. After seeing the video, I'll definitely keep it on my list of places to stay.

Marcopolo is althe best hotel i had ever seed like i already go there so i will go there tomorrow is was my best life living there before

An oldie but still a goodie. Stayed there many moons ago. But can't remember the Blu Bar. Is the bar a new addition? Will check it out. I do remember the lobby with some live band playing there at night. Must say the staff were very friendly during my stay there.

Yeap still a great place to stay in Cebu City. The Blu Bar has been around a while. It was closed during the pandemic and I think they have also renovated it a bit so it may of been closed when you went there. They sometimes have music in the lobby lounge. And i did really enjoy the farmers market and chatting to the people there.

Thanks for the video, will be coming to cebu in december and am highly considering staying here. Would you place it in the top 3 or top 5 hotels in Cebu City? You should make an updated top 10 hotels in cebu city.

Just off the top of my mind It would probably be around top 5 in my opinion . If i was to do a top 10 it be somewhere in the middle. I like it a lot but it is getting long in the tooth. Ones that you would want to look at for comparison would be Radisson Blu, Fili Hotel, I like the bai too (although it's Mandaue just on the edge of Cebu City). I did plan on making an updated top 10 in Cebu City back in 2020 then that whole lockdown mess happened. I never got around to it again. One day. Im doing top 10 in Bohol at the moment. There's some exciting hotels coming online in the next few years in Cebu City/Mandaue including a Sofitel, Marriott and also the 6 star Nustar (that should open in 2024).

Marco Polo is top notch! I don't see it as dated at all, I see it as classic. A time before all the minimalism and tiny rooms that you get in new hotels.

Overall it's aging gracefully! Still one of the better places to stay in Cebu City.

Hi Rob - just found your channel and subscribed- been a great find to plan a 1st time trip to Boracay. I know it’s unpredictable but is January a good month to visit ? Looking for your thoughts on best time to go for the best chance of clear skies and sun, cheers Rich

Hey Rich. I haven't been to Boracay in January just from late Feb. This year is starting off to be a wet one so far (n Cebu anyhow). When I was in Boracay last year their summer was wetter than usual. The Philippines is still being affected by La Niña. In general January things (weather) is usually improving, when it rains its light and not like the heavy downpours in July. I find that March/April time having the best weather although hot. But like I said last year there were days it just bucketed down with rain! Although it was short. Weather is so unpredictable these days!
