The best striker ever. He ended his career when he was only 28 years old always playing between an injury and and another. He was the swan of Utrecht the most creative, talented, and skillful striker that I have ever witnessed.

@@organiccaveman Two different type 9s. I saw them both. Ronaldo is fast and of couse so talented. But Van Basten and Romário... You must see their goals and skills, you can. But new football needs pace and speed. Ronaldo was suitable for this.

Have to comment tonight, stuck watching old videos in Spain during lockdown. I've been watching football for 40 years and have been lucky enough to have enjoyed all the great strikers of the age. No one can hold a candle to Van Bastens all round game. Touch, balance, strength, pace, technical adroitness, hold up play and cold-bloodedness in front of goal. Watching this compilation it really hammers home how great a header of the ball he was too. His long range shooting, with either foot, is also incredible. I can give him no higher praise than this: if I had to select an all time eleven from all the players who ever laced up, he would be my number 9. Taken from football too soon in 93 as he was approaching the outer limits of his talent. At least we have these goals to remind us how special he was.

I fully agree with every single word you said. I have been watching football for 56 years and for me Marco van Basten was the greatest striker of all time. He could dribble, shoot with both feet, majestic in the air, exquisite ball control, effortless grace for such a big man, supreme goal scorer of extraordinary goals. His goal against Russia in 1988 European Championship final is rightly lauded. However his goal against Real Madrid at the Bernabeau in 1989 defies belief. The man was simply incomparable !!

R9 and Van Basten share the best striker of all time Podium. Both could do it all. Both moved the ball close to their feet despite being tall. Both have that killer instinct and hunger to win. I cant separate them. I'm not Brazilian and I'm not Dutch so I have an unbiased opinion on these two 100% just incredible players . I'd have both in my team if they could both fit in there somehow.

With intention? You mean intentionally hit the pitch and loop(in some cases) over the goalkeeper? The intention is to keep the volley down(and not hit it over the goal) and in doing so hitting slightly above the midline of the ball and it hitting the ground first to varying effect. Intentional? No - I think he would tell you exactly this. Keep the volley down is the aim...yes you can dip them intentionally but generally not from the situations those goals show- keep it down is the first priority - hit the target and you have a chance to score...hit under the midline and you hit row Z in the kop stand, lol.

I think people tend to over rate R9naldo a bit as a striker/centre forward because he was so skilful on the ball. There's no doubt that he is one of the best ever no9s but he wasn't as good a finisher as guys like van Basten or Muller (especially with heading ability) and he could also be a bit greedy and wasteful at times. R9naldo was a very good finisher but it wasn't his best strength. His best strengths were his on the ball skill, creativity and lightning fast pace. Van Basten is the most complete centre forward of all time. He had skill on the ball, good vision, superb heading ability, lethal finisher with both feet, excellent team player, could score goals in multiple different ways, including from outside the box, good crosser, good passer, penalties, free kicks, he had it all. A perfect player for that position.

I think what made Marco van basten unique compared to many other Legendary or top class centre forwards,number(9)was his economy..He had all of the tools,speed,skill,strength etc,but u see that so many of his goals were scored using 1 or 2 touches.Absolutely no time or energy wasted. A complete f##king nightmare for Defenders.

Imo the goal he scored on Rinat Dasaev is one of the is beautiful goals ever scored, i still remember watching the game live when he scored that unbelievable volley and it's definitely one those things in life that i don't think I'll ever forget.

More a ballerina than a footballer. He was pure class and elegance. A player that could do it all. Touches, control ,assists and passes. He made you love football. But where he was the KING, was scoring. From the stupendous ( eg vs Russia 1988 Euro Final) to the easy tap in. He was a goal machine. Especially during the 80's when Italy had the best/ hardest defenders in world football.

Very true! The fact that pretty much all of the truly great Italian defenders who played against him declare him as the greatest and strongest striker they ever faced says all we need to know about the man. Especially as Serie A in his era was a very physical, harsh and cynical league to play in, you had to fight and earn every single goal you scored, as nobody ever gave you one for nothing! Van Basten had everything…pace, height, strength, skill, touch and could finish from anywhere! A legend and master of his art 🙏🙏🙏

I support inter Milan since 82 but I absolute loved this guy !!!! Ronaldo played with a rotten knee in his peek, injured numerous times and kept being the most complete and dominant footballer after Pelé and winning it all, beyond multiple legends. He just made the impossible that basten couldn't do.

@@hermankranendonk And in harder times than Ronaldo. Also, R9 wasn't always injured. He spent his peak years playing for a brazilian team, then for PSV, then Barcelona then Inter Milan. MVB always had this injury even in his prime.

Ha realizzato gol impossibili e impensabili. Un diamante puro. Lo ammirava anche il grande Diego. He was a fighter, humble man who gives everything he got in every single game ! Such a player who was not after money or fame but success !.he loved the game , played with his heart and mind !

Potente e contemporaneamente incredibilmente elegante , ambidestro , veloce ( per un atleta cosi alto ) , tatticamente intelligente , tecnicamente eccezionale , letale , decisivo nelle partite importanti . Van Basten was a real game changer for club and country. It's sad that he didn't go far in the World Cup-they were one of the favorites in Italia'90. But he still reserves a place as the arguably the best striker ever.

Marco van basten " holandês voador" final dos anos 80 início dos 90 , junto com Romário os dois melhores centro avantes que vi . O Milan com toda certeza foi a equipe mais completa que vi jogar : Rossi , Tassoti, baresi , Costa curta , maldini ( ele era lateral esquerdo no início ) rjikaard , ancelloti , donadoni, virdis, guljt e van basten.

Left foot, right foot, volleys, overhead kicks, headers, dribbling, long range screamers, goal poaching, the guy had everything. I don’t know how anyone watching this footage can suggest he isn’t the goat when it comes down to sheer ability. Streets ahead of R9. CR7 and Messi only above him due to longevity. Pele & Maradona are the OG’s but Van Basten would’ve overtaken everyone if he’d had another 5 years

I haven't seen enough footage of Puskas or Eusebio so can't comment on them but van Basten, Romario, R9 and Muller are the top 4 I've seen.... I don't think any of them are 'better' than each other because they all have advantages over each other in one way or another, but van Basten is the most complete and that's why he'd be my no9 in my all time team.

Quem viu,viu! Sou fanzaço do Van Basten. Na época que jogou era o melhor atacante do mundo mesmo com Romário jogando na época, que é outro extra terrestre. Mas ele era um jogador mais completo. Foi muito bom ter acompanhado a carreira dele.

Finalmente uno che dice la santa verità il più completo di sempre .lui e Ronaldo il fenomeno che aveva velocità tecnico e dribbling però nn era completo come van Basten che segnava in. Tutte le maniere teste rovesciate Destro sinistro al volo .ha fatto il gol di testa più bello della storia del calcio a Madrid col Real .al volo quello con la Russia agli europei mamma mia. . centravanti più forte di sempre stop !quando mi rivedo i suo gol mi emoziona😢

el gol de bolea en la final de la euro del 88 es un gol de otra galaxia , es uno de esos goles imposibles , una obra de arte de gol . Pedazo de delantero Van Basten , lastima que se retiro muy joven por lesion , quizas hubiera jugado la final de un mundial .

To make the ending of his career even sadder, the fact that he was at his absolute prime before his final surgery, in the 1992/93 season. He had scored 4 v Goteborg, 4 v Napoli, athletically a beast, mentally matured, playing in arguably the best football side ever, I can't even imagine how many more accolades he would have amassed. Most complete striker i've ever seen, could create a goal out of nothing, 1988 European cup final. Watched a lot of italian soccer from 80s,90s this guy was brilliant.

What an incredible player. One of the most talented players to ever have graced the international footballfields. Could score as easily with both left and rightfoot as with his head. Great athlete. These goals make me long for the good old days of football in the 80s and 90s. Still miss him. So sad his career was cut short in such a cruel manner.

Era così due spanne sopra, che tutto quello che faceva sembrava naturale, semplice e addirittura facile... uno dei pochi che giocava a CALCIO veramente (anche in confronto a tanti del suo stesso periodo... e stiamo parlando, almeno a mio modesto parere, della golden age del football). E' "Il Calcio" come dovrebbe essere giocato; Van Basten é per me un modello sportivo calcistico, tanto quanto Baggio Saluti! Luca

Spectacular player! He had all the skills and scored goals in every way imaginable. The goal in the Eurocup final was phenomenal. I was a kid at the time and I was watching the match live. Incredible, too beautiful, a lot of confidence, vision and technical ability! I'm Brazilian and here we had fantastic strikers, and I can say that Marco Van Basten is also in the memories and hearts of the Brazilian public. 👏👏👏

OMG... this guy is extra ordinary. Can plan and score with both legs, can dribble easily and score with head. I watched 3 different types of bicycle kicks like its made easy for him. His style of play is absolutely different . Hes too talented 😮😳

Van Basten is to my eyes the most entertaining player to watch, most of his goals are pure art and recuare a lot of skill. He and Ronaldo the phenomenon are the best strikers in mi opinion even though there are other players with better statistics. It's such a pity they have had a hard time with injuries during their careers.

I have this blur memories watching AC Milan matches with my father when I was a kid, and he would rave about van Basten, Ruud Gullit and Frank Riijkard everytime one of this trio has the ball or score goals. Thanks for the video. Brings back memories...

Made to be the best number 9 in all football history don't mention brazilian ronaldo because this guy is something unique and special he had series of injuries that finished his carrier at 28 years old. He can score with ant method Headers/semi volley/long distance/goals when defenders press on him/score from any angle/ That diversity in terms of scoring all goals let him the best striker in all football hiatory.

Bravooo e ti diro dibpiu ritirato ha 28/29 anni ma da quando ne ave a 26 che stava male!! I paragoni son difficili da fare lui e il fenomeno 2 marziani !! Ma lui era più completo il fenomeno tecnica e velocità suiersonica !! Ma van basten cosa è che ha fatto r9 che lui nn poteva fare !! Testa destro sinistro in acrobazia mostruoso in area si girava in 1 secondo visione di gioco veloce potente davanti alla porta nn sbagliava mai !! Io penso che in coppia erano gli attaccanti ideali uno x l altro 2 extraterrestri !! Ma se dobbiamo scegliere van basten più completo !!
