I'm gonna save you a shit ton of time. You don't need to keep hitting render for each layer, just go into the composite tab and make all your render layers then add a file output tab to each one. Then you only have to hit render once and all your collection render layers will be seperated.

You do not have to scale the entire scene to get more blur. In the properties panel you can increase the camera sensor size in millimetres, and change the focal length accordingly to keep the same field of view. That will give you more blur.

Good tutorial! Small but super important note though @ 15:52: there's no reason to remove compression on PNG files, they use lossless compression so the file gets smaller without losing any information, unlike the lossy compression of JPEGs. The slider controls the balance between compression effectiveness and speed, and the default value is very good, so it's best left alone unless you want to fill up your hard drive!

6:42 all that is not necesary, just click on the "show overlays" button on the top right corner, theres going to be an option called "fade objects" and that is pretty mkuch all you gotta do, as long as youre in draw mode every other object in scene will fade, which is easier than individualy modify every object and it doesnt show in renders so you can do it in your main scene itself

Absolutely awesome work Marco! You are a great animator and I found this video very insightful. One tip for you though to save you a tedious job of re-rendering for every collection. In the top right hand side of the screen you will see a thing called "view layer". Create as many view layers as you have seperate collections you want to render. Make sure you rename them according to which collection is active. You can choose which ones are active by selecting the tick box next to the collection. Then in compositing, you can delete the viewer node, the only one thats left will be the Render Layers node. At the bottom of the node will be the View Layer which is set to render (as standard is called view layer but this will be whatever you have renamed the view layer to be). Add a 'File Output' node from the image out and change the file destination. Then duplicate the Render Layer Node and the file output node together, change the View Layer to the next one, update the file output to another destination folder and repeat for all collections. Then when you hit render, it will render as many times as you have render layers without you having to do it manually each time! Hope that made sense!
@SpencerMagnusson Жыл бұрын
You can also use the ViewLayers in the top right of the window, plus the file output nodes in compositing, so you can save your different layers separately (or have all your layers in a single file, to separate and composite later)! Great tutorials, appreciate how it goes into theory as well as implementation.
@CraftReaper-OmarFaruqTawsif2 жыл бұрын
And there is a super quick workaround for using depth of field on grease pencil. You can select blur effect from the visual effect properties . There, if you just select the "Use Depth of Field" it will enable you to use the DOF of your camera. Works like a charms! Nevertheless this is such a valuable lesson on compositor and a showcase of how awesome blender is for 2d artists! :D

@Marco Bucci you are awesome. I leave here some comments. By default Blender uses 'Automatic' as keyframe type. Instead of going to the Graph Editor to modify the curve manually, you can convert the keyframes with the 'V' shortcut and choose 'Vector' to have a linear movement. (7:00) In case you need to dim your background you can activate 'Fade Objects' in Overlays and play with the Fade Factor. No need to make any changes to the background material. (11:59) In case you need to fade out other layers you can turn on 'Fade Layers' in Overlays. The active layer is the layer you are working on and this one will always look normal but the others will be faded (13:20) For the color picker, hover over the color you want to change and use 'E' shorcut and then pick the sample color from whatever you want . No need to open the color whell to select the color picker. (13:25) the Shield button have to be active, I mean with Check Mark.☑

Two thing I think we could add to this amazing series, project from view port in UV edit, you could use it in your advantage instead of texture painting inside Blender, like set up the 3d scene , render it over painting and on each object in UV edit select project from view port and it could project your painting on your objects, I didn't see that here, and remember when projecting from view port you need to be in hover your mouse on camera view, and second technique we could use is texture painting from external app inside Blender! when selected it takes a snap shot of your view and bring it to like Photoshop and from there you paint do whatever you like then save it and it will project the paintings on the model, this method combined with above as I said could boost your work a lot! IMO! also another topic you might want to discover! Made In Dreams, I recently found it! it's a game engine that use VR tools with PlayStation and unlike anything I ever seen it lets you create anything you can imagine so I highly recommend Marco dig it! it's based on voxel sculpting, it's a game engine exclusive to Sony that you can purchase on PSN as a video game but it's more than that! please check it! I love to see you try it! peace.

for grease pencil and static lighting (painted) , id always use just viewport rendering ... A) your scene will render in a few seconds even in 2,5 or 4k and B) rendering can change the look compared to the viewport a little bit, while viewport rendering always gives you 1:1 , just with better antialiasing, this becomes usefull especially if render many elements separately, you can create several viewlayers and just render them one by one with a simple python script which throws every viewlayer in its own subfolder autonamed by the viewlayer imagine you create a short movie with 40 cuts and each cut must be seperated into background objects , characters etc..
