The barrier here is that GW is a giant and has taught many that they need specific colors to paint something. This shows the real power of oils being more about discovery and tweaking vs adhering to a rigid technique. Great job Marco!

Thanks to this channel I now have more oils than acrylics.... Painted 15 bases of nurglings in a variety of tones in just 5 hours, thanks to oils and they look so damn good. This channel has completely changed the way I paint.

It is interesting how the painting of miniature models and models has been done by the wheel over the years. At this point, all miniature painting hobbyists discover oil paints and washings, which have been doing well for many years in the segment of historical modeling ect. Nevertheless, it shows well that you cannot have a monopoly on everything (GW). Anyone can wash themselves now, make a wet blend. I recommend it, I am constantly increasing the palette of oil paints. You can train on anything if someone is afraid of an expensive miniature from GW. Let me just add that turpentine and white spirit remove any amount of oil paint if we overdo it. I'm curious if you can replicate the contrast paints. To me (a noob) it doesn't seem to be quite the same as just thinning down the paint for a wash. I have some inks, but I'm very inexperienced with them. Any thoughts?

@@madthinker7777 Contrast paints have well-balanced proportions, it's hard to give one prescription for each Pigment because there are pigments easier to dilute and maintain consistency and viscosity, but there are also pigments (colors) that are hard to work with. You have to come to the right proportions yourself. It is definitely worth equipping yourself with a good medium, Flow improver and airbrush thinner. Personally, I try to work with these three elements to obtain the right, satisfactory consistency. Gobertown Hobby has created a very good material about creating your own contrast mixes, I recommend ... his film is certainly a better explanation of the issue than my quick commentary here.

These really are the craziest videos. Oils seem so daunting and foreign but looks so much easier to achieve such amazing results. I guess it takes an amazing artist and teacher to make it appear so attainable. Definitely come to the States to teach classes! Or the next time I'm in Ireland I may have to pester you 😂 Love this series as it really highlights your in-depth process, accessibility, and outgoing persona on video.

Hi Marco. I would like to suggest a new video, telling us the strategy that you use with oil painting based on your experience. Something like: "I use palid color in bases with acrylic, and then, darker ones with oil painting, and removed excess before getting dry"... I don't know, this kind of tricks... I am completely lost with oil painting, but your results are amazing

I tried oils today for the first time (as not a weathering wash). Not going back. That good. Only real problem I had was I found it hard to get sharp definition but I think i need to thin a wee bit and treat a bit more like a final highlight for acrylics

i think painting miniature in oils it's fantastic, but the real difficulty is why use one color over another, used to the various gw or vallejo system... hope to learn how to paint with oils someday.
