I have a problem with the commentary and line of reasoning. How would I be able to weave and relate my commentary back to the main purpose? Can you give me an example of how YOU will tie your commentary of “comparing and contrasting Ghandi as divine fire to the audience as a spark” back to the claim ? I really struggle in that section. My teacher always says that each of these choices have its own distinctive purpose/effect. But I also struggle to determine what purpose/effect did the choice serve, and I cannot relate these small purpose back to the bigger purpose

For my body paragraphs do start by using my evidence, then my anyslis of that quote, and lastly connect it to my Thesis?

Yes, that is one great way to approach the body paragraphs, though there is no single template for each paragraph.

This whole series is great--thank you!! Is it a good idea to mention the literary terms for the choices that we're discussing? E.g. the "extended metaphor" of Gandhi as fire? Do the graders care about that?

Thanks for watching! You can mention literary choices, and that can be very helpful, but in recent years the exam has moved away from insisting that thesis statements and topic sentences be organized around naming literary devices. In fact, in the multiple-choice questions, students are no longer required to identify devices.

A couple of questions. 1) Is it required to cite paragraph or line number at the end of each text evidence or paraphrase? 2) When you say to just use the line number, does this mean in lieu of text evidence? If not, what did you mean? Thank you!!! Your videos are helpful. Just want to be sure I am going down the right path.

@@MarcoLearning I think I did quite well on rhetorical and a little less well on the essay argumentative (had two in class essays) but I kept my A- so I think I did fine.
