Margaret Price lived not far from me towards the end of her life - in Trewyddel, Pembrokeshire in Wales, overlooking the ocean she loved, and with her cherished dogs. An artist of international renown, and a lovely woman.

I had the greatest privilege to have worked with her as staff producer in 3 productions. I just adored her humor and down to earthiness (listen to her laugh at the beginning). Such a beautiful woman (the Tatyana video here brings tears). She had an inner sadness and loneliness which always came through in her personality - that used to make me so sad because I wished her all the joy in the world. She seemed however to find some peace once she had retired. She is an angel now!

The sheer quality and glow in Margaret's voice! What a down-to-earth fun-loving personality she was too!

Phantastisch.

Nice to see her happy & laughing. A divine voice, an often troubled personality. A great beauty too & proud to be Welsh, but nothing like Dame Gwynneth (Jones). Big rolls of Rs in her grammatically gut Deutsch. Diolch yn fawr!

in terms of her welsh maybe But Price was the superior artist; check out her Verdi Requiem (Abaddo), Mozart Requiem (Schrier), Beethoven Missa Solemnis (Bohm)

I must agree w you there, altho' i believe Jones has an artist's soul. Her voice is not as disciplined as Price's, true. Love both ladies tho'. Was sad to hear of Dame Margaret's death. She was v. interesting in interview.

+Michael Doyle Gwyneth could be a variable singer & started her career as a contralto. She was born a mile away from where I live in Pontnewynydd. She was not as fine a singer as Margaret Price who was born in Blackwood & I doubt either spoke fluent Welsh.Henry Webb Pontypool.

(11:39) Question (urgent): "What was there with Don Giovanni?" - Margaret Price (little bit smiling): "That depends on who is Don Giovanni." - Great!

I so wish that these Da Capo interviews had English subtitles. Surely a worthy project for someone?

Good idea - since there is a lot of talking, it takes a lot of time to do that. Maybe someone should gather some money. I would do the translation then ;-)

I doubt that; he was naturally gifted and sure of himself. However, he was with Margaret Price, probably the nearest female singer to his own heart that he'd ever worked with. This little clip of them could have been from a different era, a hundred years earlier, even more. Neither of them could act in my opinion, but you don't go to opera for the acting!
