Yep I wanted to hear her voice. I had heard where the lady playing her in the Crown did her voice really good. I think the actresses voice is very stiff compared to Thatchers real voice

My memory of Margaret Thatcher was that she was a nicer person than what Gillian Anderson portrayed. These interviews show that Thatcher had a very pleasant disposition. The Crown portrayed her as older and colder looking than she was (which is strange, given that Gillian Anderson is not that old looking without makeup). Perhaps Anderson’s personal liberal political view affected how she wanted Thatcher portrayed, who i remember as being generally a popular figure and well-liked. Perhaps the major media didn’t have as one of its primary goals to influence political views back in the 80s.

Notice how she’s answering the questions rather than complaining about them having been asked. She’s not my cup of tea but this is a different age of politics, when politicians respected need for an adversarial press.

Arguably many of her economic policies - such as financial deregulation, decimation of social housing stock, nationalisation of state industries, offshoring of manufacturing & shift to a service economy - all sowed the seeds for the wage stagnation, low productivity rates and precarious work contracts that UK has witnessed since the 2008 financial crash. Time has vindicated her on some issues and confirmed her critics on others

How strange you should come to this conclusion....my family were about as working class as they come (mum cleaner, dad factory worker) during the 60s & 70s they owned nothing of any value. Under Thatcher's govt they bought their council house, made a nice few bob from British Gas shares & my brother got the confidence to set up his own business as a self employed builder when under labour he was seen as nothing more than factory fodder. My mum actually cried when she left office and said "the Tories have just kicked out the best leader they ever had". Not all working class people were happy with what socialism had to offer

I am a German social democrat 21 years old and I think she is the greatest speaker in history How accurate she can articulate herself and how strong and eminent her reason functions She is the reason why I learned Englisch after Highschool eventough I didn’t like the Language She is such an inspiration and everytime I feel depressed and hopeless I watch her interviews and feel much much better afterwards And I really love the British accent now and somehow even adopted it Last year I was asked by Americans if I was raised in Britain and I had to laugh so hard And told them nope it’s all because of Maggie Thatcher😂

I really appreciate how she kept on blinking when Jonathan Dimbleby started the interview, as if she were processing every word being heard in a computational fashion. As I'm Asian, and definitely not British, I find her eloquence more of a historic importance than what she did for the UK, for she must be one of the best English speakers of all time that have ever been recorded. Grammatically elegant, she almost never stuttered.

I was so fed up had with the way "The Crown" was portraying Thatcher that I had to find an old clip of her to compare her real voice with the total exaggeration on "The Crown". Of course Netflix wants to show her as a nutcase. This reminds me of how she really was.

That's quite a bit simplistic actually, and not a very accurate depiction of socialism. But she did turn around the original question from the journalist, and that was impressive. I think her point was good without the "socialism" argument, but I guess that was a popular view at the time.

As an 18 year old who went to school in Bucks after transferring from a working class high school with more conservative centred values, I’ve been routinely around people who extremely hate her and worship Labour for the last 5 years. The funny thing is, it’s a conservative county. Being around people like myself is so refreshing.

Even among the immigrants and minorities he found favour, the people he was painted to being hostile towards. Most politicians respected him, though they disagreed strongly with his views. That's hilarious. Why on earth would Brexit create new industries? British industry disappeared for a number of reasons - it had been in decline since the 1800s because it was grossly inefficient, had chronic underinvestment and the UK's level of education and skills were (and to a large extent still are) very poor. Nowadays, most of the kind of work that was done then is done by robots. Brexit will do absolutely nothing whatsoever to bring back British industry. The problems are with Britain, not the EU. Leaving the EU will do nothing to fix those problems.

She seemed unstoppable when this interview took place - lots of people really thought shed be the british PM for at least another ten years. 3 years later she was gone booted out by her own party. shows how quickly things can change in politics. Interestingly she was very pro the eu single market which we are now leaving.

She was pro the European Community when it was simply about trade, and at a time proximity was more important. She was VEHEMENTLY against the EU taking powers from Westminster to Brussels and indeed did everything she could to stop us signing the treaty allowing that to happen. She was very nearly successful but Major pushed it through to give himself a legacy. He certainly got one. He destroyed the Tories for 13 years and gave away our independence.

Fantastic interview...I am glued to all that this lady with a superior mind participated in all these interviews while in 10 Downing Street. She’s indeed a powerhouse. Her way of explaining things on issues given to her was clear, honest, on point and she never wavered in her convictions. She did accomplish on what makes Britain Great.

It is interesting how much the media landscape has changed. If you watch interviews now, the answers will be given in soundbites. It would be edited around those sound bites and shared on news bulletins and social media. Listen to her answers - she gives really dense answers. She doesn’t leave gaps to show where one point ends and another begins. It does feel that, as a result of the 24 hour news cycle, scrutiny of politicians has become harder because we need that killer soundbite to summarise the argument

When did our accent become so casual? the 80's wasn't THAT long ago, granted I wasn't born but there is a notable difference between the elegance and pride of the accent here in comparison to how English is spoken today

Incredible that in the old times of political interview on TV the highest point of tension would be the politician saying "Don't stop me" before it happened, therefore the whole interview was held without having a single time two words simultaneously

God that Woman had Gusto, I admire anyone who makes it to the top & endures but especially a Woman who did so when the environment was even more Hostile. Thatcher in my opinion is one of the Greatest Peace Time Prime Ministers.

She certainly led the way in progressive politics! A memorable leader will always leave a "mark" in history, regardless if its positive or negative, Thatcher left both, maybe more the latter for many, but she stands primarily in her own league in British politics. And that I guess is more than many others could only hope for.

15:24 I LOVE THE FACT that she took a sling at all the "poor people". You know the SELF LABELLED "poor" who "don't have da money" but then have a beer in their hand 12 hours a day, drink liquor each weekend, never run out of cigarettes and then have thousands of dollars of tattoos on themselves, along with some wannabe rapper brand of tracksuit gear on. Reminds me of a time I worked at a food bank. "Oh yeah things are tough", says a woman in a new full sized car that had been released 6 WEEKS AGO. It was the first of that model I had seen and it was the one with a spoiler NOT the base model. "Doing it tough" in a car a couple weeks old, 4 litre 6 cylinder, red with the spoiler on the back.....

Im not a fan of many of Thatchers decisions, but my god she really shows up modern day politicians for the spineless, gutless, underhand rats that they are. Can you imagine the Downing Street Parties going on with Thatcher in power?
