The cinematography is beautiful. The black and white adds so much more intensity to the series I love it.

I loved this series and Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning gave amazing performances. This is the best version of this story I've seen.

I'm Italian, I must admit I love this series.. any single photogram seems studied and the cinematography Is perfect. It brings you in the history of Italy and its 60's. Caravaggio, Fiat 1100, Mina, the refrigetor "Zoppas". There are no mistakes.. . There must have been a lot of work behind this masterpiece.

Talented Mr Ripley with Damon and Law is a great film and one of my all-time favourites, so I was excited about this adaptation and how they will tell Ripley's story again but with a new look and new perspective on the character. I think Andrew Scott was phenomenal as Ripley, a cold, merciless, and conniving con man/killer who clearly was chasing a lavish lifestyle through other people in means to get a satisfaction that he believes he deserves. But what makes this performance stand out to me more than Damon's, even tho I love Damon's portrayal as well, is that this Ripley is completely cold, he is not needy or begs for attention or approval. He is just a bad guy. Some may say a narcisstic sociopath or psychopath. He barely showed any emotion whatosver to the people he hurt or killed, the only thing he cares about is making sure he is in a good place and anything else does not matter unless he is feeling great, other people are just toys in means to get what he wants. But he also appreciates art and life in his own way, but the sad part is that in reality, he is a loner, a runner and seems like he never was truly loved for who he is as a person I mean I could go on and on but I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Oh, and also, he is definitely less charismatic than Damon's version. With Damon's portrayal, he was oozing charisma in this one. Ripley is just a creepy, calculated manipulator with a look of a complete Psycho. Either way, I appreciate both performances and like both of them in they own ways, I think the Damon's movie version is more of a entertaining film but this one is definitely more for film buffs and people who appreciate authenticity, amazing acting, masterful cinematography, outstanding sets and great writing. Also, this one feels like straight out of the book, I imagine reading one of those books and imagining these scenes playing in my head while I am reading one of these pages, this even feels like a book but I can see how this series won't be for everybody and that's understandable. It's a very neo-noir/psychological while the movie was more of a fun thriller. Don't get me wrong the movie was still very well made, but it was definitely more colourful in it's approach and more for mainstream audiences than the show Ripley, I can see some people absolutely be bored by this but I really enjoyed it overall. Would give it a solid 8/10

What I like about Andrew Scott's Ripley is, he is a killer; but he's not a competent one. He doesn't really premeditates, and he's sloppy covering his tracks. That's true to life when it comes to a lot of murderers; they don't get away with it because they're geniuses, they get away with it because the police is incompetent (look at famous serial killers for reference). So Tom Ripley kills, and when he kills, he does so out of desperation, he has no plan. He wings it and we the audience, being familiarized with the genre, see how bad he is at this. Even Tom himself doesn't believe anyone's buying the story, and Scott shows this at every turn. It's like Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment": he's always looking over his shoulder because he knows what he's done, and because of that he thinks everyone knows what he's done.

I really really enjoyed this remake. I actually never saw the original I just knew about the boat scene when Tom kills Dickie when I saw it as a kid. In the weirdest way I found myself rooting for Tom the whole time 😂😂

It was suspenseful in the beginning but the story lost its logic half way. It is vital that the police department gets a photo of the person they are looking for or investigating. When inspector Ravini was asking about Frederick, he had a picture of him but when he looked for Tom, he did not. If the excuse was there was no photo of Tom,then a drawing should have been developed. That's what investigators do. It was ridiculous of the inspector to have his own picture in the newspaper when the article was about a missing person. Having said that, if the story followed the actual police protocol, then nothing after episode 5 could have happened.

I have to say that although cinematography is great, the suspense is slow and the casting aside from Andrew is awful. Marge and Dickie especially - so boring. I actually rooted for Tom to get away from the murders not because he did an awful thing but because these people were boring him to death with their privilege, shallowness and no appreciation for luxury.
