This is my first time hearing this "stunning" soprano. Brilliant!!! I especially love that "wuh wuh wuh" she sings at 0:56 and her various "interpretive touches." She does magnificent imitations of a small dog!

I found this on on KZfaq today and had to post it on facebook for my friends Don and Rhesa. Back in the day in NYC...Mari Lyn had her very own public television show where she basically sang all her favorite arias. I cannot tell you how many gut laughs I have had with my friends over her delicious interpretation of these classic arias. The old guy at the piano...I felt particularly sorry for him...that was no easy feat keeping up with Madame Lyn.

Not quite at the level of greatness as Madame Jenkins but the subtitles make it really a superb experience! I know La Jenkins was seriously convinced she possessed talent but was this lady for real? I mean - the wig, the costumes, the interpretation... seems like parody to me. I've seen low end drag queens do a better job.

Part of the true story... She was Marilyn Levine and she was from Brooklyn (or maybe the Bronx). Before she created the Mari Lyn persona, she had been "Graciella Caselotti", [Banned in Paris!!] a burlesque queen/stripper, in New York.

Someone in an opera blog (parterre) mentioned that she was able to afford this because "her husband was the guiding light behind The Guiding LIght" whatever it means. I checked the credits for the Guiding Light soap opera, and neither the director nor the producer appear to have any relations to her, but maybe someone else there. But it must've been expensive to buy so much time on Public Access tv in NYC.
