A brief unboxing and walkthrough of the Maria Callas complete studio recordings (1949-1969) boxset from Warner, newly remastered from the original tapes. I preface the boxset with a short look at the Calmels Chambre Cohen auction house sale catalogue for the auction of the Diva's personal effects, which took place in December 2000. No question about it. I've got the box and it's a totally classy presentation, worthy of this greatest of divas. The sonic improvement is tremendous, the less than perfect top notes on the later recordings greatly smoothed out by the reduction in distortion and reverberation. Callas stands as THE icon of Italian Opera in the Twentieth Century and this entire package puts the seal on her fabulous legacy in sound. We will never encounter another like her.

I found the digital version of this, and think it's AMAZING! 😁 I would love to see an inviting of the live box set of available. Also... I WANT THAT BOOK YOU SHOWED US AT THE START!

Thanks for your comment. Sorry, that is like being asked to pick your favourite child! Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Gioconda and I have always had a soft spot for the 1960 stereo Norma. The recital discs are also a big draw in this remastered sound.

Thanks. Yes, overall the remasterings are pleasing, seeming pretty faithful to the sound issued on the LPs. Aida, Pagliacci, Gioconda and Butterfly spring to mind in this regard. Check out the long discussion of the box here www.talkclassical.com/33051-new-maria-callas-box.html
