Bravo!! So delicately and accurately done!! Maria Theresa is one of my favorite historical figures and she birthed my absolute favorite woman historical figure, Marie Antoinette, of course! The Habsburgs run deep and wide in Dynasties among European Cities! They've always fascinated me and in spite of the incestuous marriages to keep a hold on all that power, I think they were, for the most part, a magnificent and intriguing family. Of course, as I said before, they had many, many flaws. But, they were still able to Reign Supreme for many centuries in many cities!

I never meant to be harsh in that sense and I'm truly sorry if I offended you unintentionally. Anyway, thank you a lot. Regarding this family I have a tip for you on a video and I don't mean Marie Antoinette but her sister Maria Elisabeth also nicknamed as Goitrous Liesel due to her looks after surviving smallpox. Don't forget that Maria Theresa's father was the Habsburg candidate for the disputed Spanish throne in the War of the Spanish Succession. He ruled as king of part of Spain (Mainly Catalonia) for about a decade. However the French candidate of the Bourbon dynasty won out in the end following the battle of Almanza and with the death of his brother the Holy Roman Emperor Charles decided to take up that position instead.

My Grandmother was born in Hungary. Born 1887-1981. She loved the Habsburgs and mourned the passing of the Empire. Members of her Family started leaving in 1897, because they knew the Empire was coming to and end. She arrived in NY in 1907. I developed a strong affection for them, because I listening to her stories. For instance, each Town had a “bandstand” where orchestrated music would be preformed. Everyone would attend beautifully dressed.

A common depiction of her is calling her empress of the Holy Roman Empire - she never was. For hundreds of years, the Arch Duke from the house of Habsburg of Austria was chosen King of the empire and then crowned as emperor. For ancient rules, only men could sit on the empires throne. Her grandpa, Leopold I. was arch duke too and emperor, and he made sure, that at least for austria a woman could inherit being an arch duke - in that case an arch duchess - if no male in the close family tree was available. So, she became arch duchess, ruler of austria, but couldn't be queenor even emperess of the empire. That wasn't so bad, because she automatically was queen of Hungary and Bohemian too. A bavarian was chosen instaed to rule the empirer. MT was married to Franz Stephan of the house of Habsburg-Lothringen, but she got the pants on. Many didn't like her being the arch duchess of austria, she got in fights with other family members and, at the end, with Prussia. Friedrich III, called the Great, was eager to get the austrian province of Silesia, which had a lot of coal. War broke out, resulting in the 7 years war, which a lot of historian consider it the first world war. Because an austrian allied was France, an prussian allied was Britain. And that war was fought over in America (French and Indian wars) and overseas (Phillipines). Literally - the Last Mohican and MT were hard enemies. Well, the bavarian emperor died and MT made sure, her husband was chosen king of the empire and crowned as an emperor. But she didn't want to be crowned as an emperess, cause she wanted the conflicts with Prussia to be an austria issue, not an empire one. Austria and Prussia were both parts of the empire, and any involvement of the emperor on her behalf would have risen a great uproar. But, she liked to be, and demanded it, called emperess - and still had the pants on.
